What do you say to your family when you don’t know if you’ll ever see them again?
In February 2022, he told his wife and children the war had begun. Then he left as Russian forces advanced towards Kyiv, unsure what the coming hours would bring.
This is President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Before politics, he built a successful career in Ukrainian television as a writer, producer and performer, even portraying a president on screen. In 2019, he was elected President of Ukraine. Three years later, Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
Sitting down with him was surreal and an enormous responsibility. It was a rare chance to hear his account of the first hours of the war and the decisions that followed.
We discussed things like:
How he found out Russia had invaded.
Why he refused an offer to evacuate Kyiv.
The 64km Russian military convoy advancing towards the capital.
How Russian forces tried to capture a key airport.
His account of discovering hundreds of bodies after Russian occupation.
What he believes it will take to end the war.
But I also wanted to understand how he’d been coping.
One of my first questions was simply, “How are you doing?” His answer was: “It’s hard.”
He spoke about meeting parents whose children had been killed. Some, he explained, simply ask him for a hug.
And as he spoke, there were tears in his eyes.
Whatever your views on the war or the decisions made by those involved, this is a rare opportunity to hear his account of events that have changed millions of lives.
Because behind every map, every headline and every political decision, there are real people.
Out now on all platforms ❤️👊🏾
(President Zelenskyy was recorded in Ukrainian and dubbed in English.)

Host: "It's defending itself."
Weidel: "No, it's not."
Host: "Every night, drones and ballistic missiles rain down on Ukraine..."
Weidel: "This strategy is very risky, and we've been criticizing it. We want to end this war.
It doesn't help if a country [Ukraine] launches drone attacks against a country [Russia] that has nuclear weapons. It doesn't make sense, it's very risky and very stupid.
We need to end this, and we need to actually put pressure on Ukrainian president to have the willingness to end the dying and stop this very risky strategy for all of Europe."🔚
Folks, here is Weidel's imaginary reality: black is white, the victim is to blame for the crime against them, and defending your home against a bloody, illegal invasion that murders children and razes towns is "stupid," while letting Russia occupy you and carry out a country-wide Bucha massacre is probably smart.
And defending yourself is risky! Risky, did you hear that? Well, no shit, just standing there and catching Russian ballistics with your face is risky, too. So we may as well take the risk and, hear me out, fight back?
Please don't vote for this evil Russian appendix in Germany!

Witkoff called Putin a humanist as he thanked him for Stephen Hubbard’s release. Russian troops seized the elderly American in Izium, and former fellow prisoners reported that he had been beaten, tortured with electric shocks, burned and attacked by dogs. This is a punitive system created and endorsed by Putin, who is himself a product of that system.
Let us recall some examples of the “humanism” displayed by Putin and the system he created.
Wars. Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Ukraine—a succession of military campaigns involving mass civilian casualties. In Novye Aldi in Chechnya, Russian forces executed at least 60 people. In Georgia, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) established Russia’s responsibility for killings, torture and the burning of homes. In Syria, human rights organisations documented unlawful strikes by Russian and Syrian forces on hospitals, schools and markets.
His personal decision to invade Ukraine. On 24 February 2022, Putin himself announced the start of the full-scale war. As early as 2014, he publicly spoke of using civilians to shield Russian troops: standing “behind them, not in front, but behind” and challenging Ukrainian soldiers to “try shooting at women and children.”
Killings of civilians and the destruction of shelters and hospitals. Bucha, with its extrajudicial executions; the Mariupol Drama Theatre, marked with the word “CHILDREN”; and the missile strike on Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital are specific instances of violence committed by the army Putin sent into Ukraine. They have been documented by the UN and international human rights organisations.
The deportation of children. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin over his suspected personal responsibility for the unlawful deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children. The UN Commission of Inquiry classified these practices as crimes against humanity.
Torture and the hunting of human beings. The UN Commission of Inquiry found that the Russian authorities’ systematic use of torture constituted a crime against humanity. It reached the same conclusion regarding systematic drone attacks on civilians in the Kherson region.
Depriving millions of the basic necessities of life. Strikes on energy infrastructure left Ukrainians without electricity, heating and water, and threatened the operation of hospitals. In connection with this campaign, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Shoigu and Gerasimov, including for suspected attacks on civilian objects.
MH17 and the concealment of responsibility. All 298 people aboard the passenger aircraft were killed when it was shot down. The ECtHR established Russia’s responsibility for the disaster and for violations of the rights of the victims’ relatives.
Poisonings abroad. A British inquiry found that Putin had probably approved Litvinenko’s murder with polonium. Another inquiry concluded that he had authorised the assassination attempt on Skripal. Novichok left behind by the perpetrators killed a member of the public—Dawn Sturgess.
The persecution of Navalny. After being poisoned with Novichok, the opposition politician was imprisoned; he died in a penal colony. In 2026, five European countries reported detecting epibatidine in samples taken from him and held the Russian state responsible for his poisoning.
Impunity for those who ordered political killings. Nemtsov was shot dead near the Kremlin. Politkovskaya was murdered on Putin’s birthday after investigating crimes in Chechnya.
Personal support for a state assassin. A German court established that Krasikov had killed Khangoshvili in Berlin on orders from Russian state agencies. Following a prisoner exchange, Putin personally met the convicted murderer at the airport and embraced him.
“Kursk”: 118 dead and “It sank.” In the first days of the disaster, Putin remained on holiday while Moscow delayed accepting foreign assistance. All 118 sailors died. Later, when Larry King asked what had happened to the submarine, Putin replied: “It sank.” His initial response to a question about the deaths of an entire crew took just two words.
“Nord-Ost” and Beslan: contempt for hostages’ lives. In the Nord-Ost case, the ECtHR found that the rescue operation following the use of gas had been inadequately organised. In Beslan, the authorities failed to take appropriate measures despite having information about the threat of an attack. During the operation, security forces used tank guns, grenade launchers and flamethrowers—the court found that this had contributed to the hostages’ deaths.
Children as hostages to political revenge. In retaliation for the US Magnitsky Act, Putin signed a law banning US citizens from adopting Russian children. Even nearly completed adoptions were halted, including those involving children with serious illnesses. The ECtHR found the ban discriminatory and disproportionate. The Kremlin demonstrated its power to Washington at the expense of children who could have found families.
The 1999 apartment bombings: questions the Kremlin cannot brush aside. Hundreds dead, another war in Chechnya and the rapid consolidation of Putin’s power. Litvinenko, Felshtinsky and Satter accused the FSB of organising the bombings. In Ryazan, the FSB later claimed that a device initially regarded as a bomb in an apartment building was part of a “training exercise with sugar.”
Torture, coerced confessions and years of imprisonment—this is how Putin’s government punishes disobedience. Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and Russian opposition figures have received prison sentences of 10, 20 and 25 years in politically motivated cases.
By calling Putin a humanist, Witkoff grants moral absolution to a ruler who starts wars, presides over a state that practises systematic torture, and personally welcomes a convicted murderer.

We do not need to restore the West. We need to defend it...
We do not need to restore the West. Our society has not collapsed. We are stronger than ever, and it is that strength that allows us to endure adversity and continue to prosper.
There are two invasions. The first comes with tanks, aircraft and drones advancing from the east, held back by Ukraine. A nation that has survived against all odds and continues to resist an adversary many times its size. But Ukraine cannot hold forever, nor should it be expected to. We must do everything within our power to assist and reinforce its defence with resources, personnel, equipment and arms.
We owe Ukraine a debt that cannot be measured in money or weapons alone. Its people have fought a war they did not ask for, defending not only their own sovereignty but the security of Europe and global democracy. They should never have been left to bear so much of that burden alone. For that, we all owe them an apology.
The second invasion is not at our borders. It is not being carried out by immigrants or foreigners whose cultures, religions or traditions differ from our own. It is at our fingertips.
It comes through the devices we carry every day, through digital platforms weaponized by oligarchs and hostile states seeking to weaken, divide and ultimately subjugate our societies and make fools of our men and slaves of our women and children.
Through fear, these actors manipulate the masses, particularly our youth and our men. Through fabricated images, videos and narratives, they exploit the psychologically vulnerable, the socially isolated and those who struggle to distinguish truth from deception. They convince people to fear their neighbours, hate and have contempt towards women, distrust their governments and turn against their own communities. It creates traitors out of patriots, and sinners out of the righteous.
They transform ordinary citizens into unwitting instruments of information warfare, spreading the disease of disinformation to everyone around them, often without realizing that they have become part of the machinery being used against their own society, to attack their own nation.
The objective is not simply to make people believe lies. It is to destroy their ability to trust one another, distinguish fact from fiction and recognise the institutions and communities that hold their societies together. It allows them to commit arson, rape, theft and mass murder without remorse, convinced that their actions are justified, their victims are enemies and their crimes are acts of righteousness.
A population consumed by fear and suspicion becomes easier to divide, manipulate and control. A society that can no longer agree on what is real becomes increasingly incapable of recognising the threats against it, let alone defending itself. Its enemies no longer need to cross its borders when they can turn its own citizens against one another.
We do not have the answer to how we bring back those who have been lost to this manipulation, yet. I do not know how we reach people who have become so consumed by fabricated realities that they can no longer recognise the humanity of their own neighbours.
I refuse to believe they are beyond our reach, but until we understand how to reach them, we must also recognise the danger they can pose to others and take the necessary steps to protect ourselves, our communities and our institutions.
For those who remain, who refuse to surrender their judgment to fear, who continue to recognise the humanity in their neighbours and the strength of their communities, we must endure. We must not allow fear to dictate our actions. We must not permit those who seek to divide us to determine our future. And we must never mistake the deliberate manufacture of social disorder for evidence that our civilization has failed.
Our societies are not perfect, and our institutions must be subject to scrutiny, accountability and reform. But their failures do not erase what generations before us have built, defended and sacrificed for. Nor do they justify surrendering the rights, freedoms and institutions they fought to establish to oligarchs and hostile powers seeking to dismantle them.
We do not need to restore a civilization that has not fallen. We need to recognise the value of what we already have, understand the forces seeking to undermine it and stand together to defend what generations before us fought to build.
We are not a collapsing civilization waiting to be saved. We are a society worth defending.
Stay calm. Stay smart. Stay strong.

European intelligence services’ decision to publicly limit their investigations to Russia and Iran is a calculated political and diplomatic decision, rather than a reflection of the full scope of foreign interference.
Publicly implicating US and Israeli actors in disinformation operations targeting the EU would carry significant diplomatic consequences. While such restraint is politically expedient, European counterintelligence services must investigate these threats privately, regardless of where the evidence leads or who is implicated.
We are living in a world at war, whether our leaders are prepared to publicly acknowledge it or not. There is no such thing as hybrid warfare, only terminology used to avoid confronting the reality of modern conflict and excuses that delay the inevitable.
Europe and Canada must become far more proactive in its intelligence, counterintelligence and national security efforts. The public deserves to be informed of the severity of the threats confronting their countries, including those originating from governments traditionally regarded as allies.
Our citizens cannot prepare for threats their governments refuse to acknowledge. They deserve transparency, an honest assessment of the dangers ahead and the means to prepare for them.
We must all be ready.

BREAKING: George W. Bush's brother Neil just dropped a BOMB on MAGA by proudly announcing that he voted for James Talarico in the Texas Senate race.
This just gave Republicans a flashing green light to vote blue...
"I have never posted a political message on Facebook not wanting to offend friends whose views may be very different than mine. I'm breaking that tradition because I voted early today, and I voted for James Talarico for the United States Senate," Bush, the child of the late President George H.W. Bush wrote on Facebook.
"My vote was motivated by two things: deep concern about Ken Paxton's record and genuine admiration for the character and principles I see in James Talarico," he continued.
"I have been deeply troubled by Paxton's conduct as Texas Attorney General, particularly his decision to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election in other states in an effort to help Donald Trump remain in power. I believe that effort was an affront to our democratic institutions and the peaceful transfer of power. My concerns about his judgment and conduct are hardly mine alone. He was impeached by the Republican-controlled Texas House, although subsequently acquitted by the Texas Senate."
"More broadly, I believe Donald Trump and those who have enabled him have done enormous damage to the Republican Party. I worry about a political culture in which loyalty to an individual takes precedence over loyalty to principle, and where those who hold power begin to believe they are no longer accountable."
"But my vote today was about much more than opposition to Ken Paxton."
"I've never met James Talarico, but I have been enormously impressed by the way he approaches complicated and controversial issues. He speaks with respect, seeks common ground, and seems genuinely interested in bringing people together rather than driving them apart. His faith appears to be a deeply rooted source of humility, compassion, and conviction rather than a political weapon."
I see in him the qualities I admire most in public servants: integrity, civility, humility, and a willingness to listen to those with whom he disagrees. My impression is that he is a principled, pragmatic leader who understands that public office is a responsibility to serve, not an entitlement to power."
"I have been a Republican for most of my life, and I still believe deeply in many traditional Republican principles. But character matters more than party affiliation. Our democracy depends on leaders who respect our institutions, tell the truth, accept accountability, and seek to unite rather than divide."
"Today, I voted against a style of politics that I believe has damaged our country. More importantly, I voted for the kind of character and leadership I hope will help heal it," he concluded.
Bravo, Mr. Bush! We commend you for speaking out boldly during these crucial midterm elections. Ken Paxton is a stone-cold crook who was impeached for bribery by his own party as state attorney general. He has zero interest in serving the people of Texas if he wins and will instead work to line his own pockets, accumulate personal power, and rubber-stamp Trump's destructive agenda.
Meanwhile, James Talarico is a devout Christian who is committed to fighting for better healthcare, an end to pointless wars, livable wages, more housing construction to restore the American Dream, and banning Congressional stock trading.
The Bush family still wields a great deal of influence in Texas, so this announcement is sure to cause political shockwaves. If you're a Republican who genuinely loves this country, it's time to cross the aisle and vote for James Talarico.
Please ❤️ and share to thank Neil Bush!

IHere's what Pres.Trump has done for Vladimir Putin since 2017:
🇺🇸➡️🇷🇺 First term
1Stood next to Putin in Helsinki and took his word over U.S. intelligence
2Lobbied to bring Russia back into the G7
3Withheld military aid from Ukraine to squeeze Zelensky (impeachment #1)
4Pulled out of Syria, handing Russia a freer hand
5Openly questioned NATO's mutual-defense pledge
6Lifted sanctions on Deripaska-linked companies, including Rusal
7Walked away from the INF nuclear treaty
8Walked away from the Open Skies treaty, leaving our European allies with less visibility
🇺🇸➡️🇷🇺 Second term
9. Called Russia's G7 expulsion a "mistake"
10. Declared Moscow "holds all the cards"
11. Opened talks with Russia with zero preconditions
12. Berated Zelensky in the Oval Office, then paused aid and intel to Ukraine
13. Halted offensive cyber operations against Russia
14. Had the U.S. vote WITH Russia against a UN resolution condemning the invasion
15. Said "Crimea will stay with Russia"
16. Rolled out the red carpet for Putin in Alaska
17. Pressed Ukraine, not Russia, to give up territory
18. Starshield
19. Diesel
20. Revoke Graham sanctions
That's not "America First."
You could never make that list of things a President has done for Zelensky, or for NATO. Ask yourself why.

There is a lot of Russian propaganda in Europe. They have invested as much money in it as in weapons during this war. This is a massive financial program spanning decades. Russia has been waging a hybrid war against Europe, including Italy, France, Britain, and Germany, for a long time. It just isn't waging a full-scale war against them as it is against us. Because we had the same thing – a hybrid war. Russian narratives across absolutely all television and media platforms, on the internet, and on social media.
People should not be pierced through and brainwashed by waves of narratives from the Russian Federation. Because it is up to France, Ukraine, Italy, and Spain to decide how to live and whom to elect. Russia cannot influence Italy's choices and freedom. Italy is a free country, just like Ukraine.
The Russians will seek to exploit far-right movements, religious movements, faith, migration, and gender. Russia doesn't care what issue can divide society: from religion to language, Russia will always find it and strike there. We are seeing this now not only in Europe – they also have influence in the United States of America. They have a very significant wave going on there, and their network is operating.

We suspected this was the reason Ukraine’s access to Starshield was restricted. But to see it from senior officials in this reporting is still utterly unconscionable.
Let’s be absolutely clear about what this means. The Trump Administration deliberately restricted technology Ukraine relies on to intercept Russian drones and ballistic missiles. It made it harder for Ukraine to defend itself and easier for Russia to carry out its deadly attacks against Ukrainian civilians.
They knew exactly what was at stake. They knew that more Russian drones and missiles would get through, allowing Russia to kill even more Ukrainians. And yet they went ahead anyway.
This is a deliberate weaking of Ukraine’s defenses that only Russia will benefit from. It is a betrayal of our ally that this Administration cannot wash its hands of.
The American people deserve to know who made this decision, why they made it, and how they can possibly justify putting more innocent Ukrainian lives in the crosshairs of Putin’s war machine.

I don’t think Europeans fully appreciate what is happening to the European Union right now.
The EU is under an extraordinary, multi-front assault, both from outside and from within. And I struggle to think of another period in its history when so many powerful actors had an interest in weakening it simultaneously.
Russia has spent years waging hybrid warfare against Europe. Weaponised migration, sabotage, cyberattacks, coordinated disinformation campaigns, bot networks and political interference. The objective is clear: undermine trust in democratic institutions, deepen social divisions and weaken European unity.
China has different motivations, primarily economic and geopolitical. A fragmented Europe is easier to pressure, easier to negotiate with individually and less capable of defending its economic interests.
And then there is the United States. Perhaps the most disturbing development of all.
Under Trump and MAGA, a country that helped rebuild the old continent and then spent decades supporting European integration now has an administration openly hostile to much of what the EU represents. Its own National Security Strategy even calls for cultivating resistance to Europe’s current political direction.
Think about that for a moment.
Meanwhile, within Europe, parts of the far right and far left amplify these divisions, whether through ideological alignment, political opportunism or outright sympathy for authoritarian regimes.
This doesn’t mean Russia, China and MAGA are all following some jointly coordinated master plan. They don’t have to. Their interests increasingly overlap, and Europe’s internal divisions make their work considerably easier.
What makes this particularly alarming is what is actually at stake.
For all its flaws, the EU remains one of the world’s most consequential projects built around liberal democracy, the rule of law, individual freedoms and cooperation between nations.
At a time when authoritarianism is gaining ground and even longstanding democracies are showing disturbing tendencies, that matters enormously.
Europe is far from perfect. Its bureaucracy, indecision and inability to act decisively are real problems. But the answer cannot be to retreat into 27 competing nation-states, each too small to meaningfully influence a world increasingly dominated by continental powers.
Quite the opposite.
Europe needs deeper integration, stronger common institutions, genuine strategic autonomy and the political courage to defend its interests and values.
Because fragmentation is precisely what so many external actors want.
And perhaps that’s the central irony of our time: people are being deliberately manipulated into believing that the reverse is true — that national identity and sovereignty can only be protected by weakening European cooperation. In reality, a divided Europe is less sovereign, less secure and far easier for outside powers to pressure. Therefore the very thing that will make Europe stronger is the thing its adversaries are working hardest to prevent.
A united Europe is a geopolitical power. A divided Europe is a collection of countries waiting to be played against one another.
We need treason enquiries opened up in a number of Western countries- and a whole bunch of Russian-aligned organisations need to be proscribed - before it’s too late.
Leaked documents expose a shadowy international network operating around Alexander Babakov, a sanctioned Kremlin power broker previously linked to the €9.4 million loan that helped finance Marine Le Pen’s Front National.
A new investigation by @InformNapalm reveals how French national Geoffroy Doly became deeply embedded in Babakov’s inner circle, gaining direct Russian diplomatic support while developing corporate connections across France, Serbia, Russia and China.
What the documents show:
- Diplomatic correspondence in which Babakov personally steps in to arrange Doly’s visas.
- Travel logs placing Doly with Babakov’s son, Mikhail, and with other people who have been around
- Babakov for years, in several countries.
-Corporate records linking Doly to businesses in France, Serbia, Russia and China.
The revelations raise troubling questions about whether Western intermediaries are helping sanctioned Kremlin elites preserve their influence and power through corporate structures, diplomatic channels and cross-border business relationships.
The ease with which a young French national has woven his career into the circle of a sanctioned Kremlin power broker exposes a dangerous blind spot in Western enforcement.
The evidence points to an extensive system of relationships that warrants scrutiny for potential sanctions circumvention. Western governments sanctioned Babakov, but the network surrounding him appears to have remained alive.

True.
Eternally captive to their own naivete, European electorates that will now see French protests as a further reason to usher in pro-Russian far-right political parties have no idea they have fallen into a standard Moscow-backed reflexive control operation.
No coincidence that the main push organizing these French protests also calls for France to recognize Putin's Donetsk and Luhansk "People's Republics" in Ukraine, as well as the other standard package of narratives we see from all Moscow's puppet chaos-agents ripping apart the western world.
