Your family migrated here 20 years ago, and you only became a citizen five years ago. So, at some point, you or your family may have navigated the very immigration system you’re now supporting politicians who want to make even more restrictive? This is exactly why I keep telling y’all that this performative POC/Black solidarity is bullshit. Shared racial identity does not automatically mean shared values, political interests, or collective consciousness. I’d much rather engage politically with a white person who understands the issues and recognizes what’s at stake than blindly align myself with someone simply because they’re a person of color. Being marginalized doesn’t automatically make you politically informed, empathetic, or committed to the liberation of others.
