Questions about how we verify things and if the math is True? @ProfNoahGian and I got to chat with @TaliaRinger about Lean and formal verification on a @breakingmathpod Substack Exclusive interview. Check it out!

I spoke to @breakingmathpod back in the summer about formal proof, before all of these landmark results, and made the same points that mathematicians have been making all month. Hopefully the timing of this interview gives critics a credible source

What happens when Melanie Challenger explains why a single cell is doing something no machine has ever done — and why we’re more willing to imagine a chatbot as sentient than to see our fellow mammals as anything more than objects? @penguinpress

In this episode, neuroscientist Stuart Firestein argues uncertainty isn't a flaw in science — it's the whole point.
"The notion that there's only a single answer to any given problem in science is probably the most damaging idea we have."

Who’s going to be at MathFest? 👀 @maanow
We want to be your friend and meet you there. 😎
We’re over here trying to prevent this. We care!!!
Replying to @AlexKontorovich
For me the nightmare scenario is: a moribund math academia playing the slot machine for theorems, failing to train the next generation, and then the subject dying as no one cares enough to continue. Not saying this is likely--I think we'll adapt--but it seems possible.

When @neuraltheory ran D&D with Claude and Gemini as dungeon masters. Both remapped an entire world in ~30 seconds and also kept forgetting what the player character wasn't supposed to know.

"AI may be the most powerful tool ever developed. It's still just a tool in our tool belt. It thinks we're just tools." — @neuraltheory on the new episode of Breaking Math with @1autumn_leaf and @ProfNoahGian

Just days after appearing on @ezraklein's show to discuss Abundance, @MarcDunkelman recorded an episode of @breakingmathpod with me and @1autumn_leaf. Why would a math podcast bring on a public policy expert and political historian? Listen to find out--I don't think you'll be disappointed! youtube.com/watch?v=VdXpNM2i…
Who're the new robber barons?
@MarcDunkelman says that's the wrong question. The old barons controlled milk, grain, oil, steel. Today's giants control your feed. Swap "railroad" for "recommendation algorithm," and you've got something.

Check out our latest episode with @JuliaAngwin on why journalism should work more like a mathematical proof than a pile of quotes, her latest book "On Courage," and why she may be a mathematical dissident.

You might know @JuliaAngwin as a @nytopinion writer, or as a @PulitzerPrizes winning journalist, or as the coauthor of a recent book and viral @NewYorker essay on how to be a dissident. But did you know that she has a math degree and is the child of a math professor and is bringing ideas from math and science to save journalism?
One of the most fun, interesting convos I've ever been part of, listen to our latest episode of @breakingmathpod with cohost @1autumn_leaf youtube.com/watch?v=8wfksiGY…
