Only 2% of laser business owners I surveyed make $10K/month. So I built a calculator to show exactly why. Ok dot, muse and grok bot are cool an all. But if I’m going to talk to a robot ai it better be a droid. This is running on a 27in touch screen plugged into a Mac mini. More or less a home rolled openclaw. Opus 5.5 has been insane for blender to 3d modeling workflows. @ElevenLabs v4 is wild with how close it’s getting to sounding like him. Animations can get triggered by Claude and/or from Jev which processes commands and triggers animations without waiting the few seconds for Claude to process. Wild how far all of this has come in just the last month.

The doctor who delivered Dolly Parton in a one-room Tennessee cabin in 1946 was paid with a sack of cornmeal. Her father farmed other people's land and could not read or write. Eighty years later, the reading program she built in his name has mailed more than 300 million books. She wrote "I Will Always Love You" on the same afternoon she wrote "Jolene," as a goodbye to Porter Wagoner, and released it in 1974. Elvis wanted it. The night before the session, Colonel Tom Parker called and said Presley would only record it if they got half the publishing, meaning half of everything the song ever earned. She had been in Nashville ten years by then. She said no, and cried all night. Whitney Houston cut her version in 1992, held number one for fourteen weeks, and Forbes later put Parton's royalties from it near $10 million. She put some of that money into an office complex in Nashville and called the place the house that Whitney built. Dollywood opened in Pigeon Forge in 1986 because she wanted paychecks in the county she came from. Around 4,000 people work there now. Three million visitors come every year. The University of Tennessee put its economic impact at $1.8 billion, and it is the largest employer in Sevier County. Since 2022 the company has paid tuition, fees, and books in full for every worker from their first day, seasonal hires included. Wildfires tore through those mountains in November 2016, killing fourteen people and destroying more than 2,400 buildings. Her foundation was handing out money within 48 hours. Every family that lost a home got $1,000 a month for six months, regardless of income. The final check was $5,000. Total delivered: $8.9 million. In April 2020 she sent $1 million to Vanderbilt for coronavirus research. When Moderna's vaccine results ran in the New England Journal of Medicine that November, her fund appeared in the footnotes. Carl Dean, her husband of nearly sixty years, died in March 2025. The note she wrote to fans afterward ended with the same five words she wrote for Porter Wagoner back in 1974. She died in Nashville today. Her family asked that instead of flowers, people give to the Imagination Library, which still mails 3.4 million books a month to children who will never get to meet her.
A message from the family of Dolly Parton.

It’s really hard to think of famous folks with near universal approval rates. Dolly and Betty, that’s about it.

.@naval deleted his calendar. Anthony Bourdain had a word for people who treat showing up as optional. artists....he did not mean it as a compliment. “When I hear ‘artist,’ I think of someone who doesn't think it necessary to show up at work on time.” By Bourdain’s definition, Naval sounds like an artist. Except Naval isn’t blowing off plans. He avoids making them. I mostly agree with that. He avoids scheduling far in advance, declines most requests, and sometimes waits until the day of an event to decide if he wants to go. He says he ignores plenty of incoming requests completely. “Now I just ghost. I just disappear.” The point is to leave room for whatever feels most important while he still has the interest and energy for it. He still keeps real obligations and sets alarms for the things he has to do. It’s basically @sivers “Hell Yeah or No” rule applied to your calendar. And I get it. Nonsense meetings were one of the biggest reasons I started working for myself. I used to sit through meetings that were basically office theater: someone trying to impress the boss by holding a meeting, and for some reason, I had to be there too. That was part of having a job. They paid me, and in return I had my share of Michael Scott meetings. Now I control my time. I also have to find the work, negotiate the deals, make the content, and deal with the weeks when my ideas don’t make any money. I got the freedom and I got the risk. And some commitments to my future self help me. If I only worked on whatever interested me that morning, I could avoid the bigger thing I had already decided mattered. Sometimes structure protects me from me. But Bourdain’s warning really matters when my flexibility affects someone else. My kids get invited to tons of birthday parties I don’t want to attend. I could say no and spend Saturday doing whatever nonsense I would rather be doing. But the birthday party doesn’t disappear. If my wife wants to take them, fine. We divide this stuff all the time. But if I decide my Saturday belongs to me without talking to her, she has to go. Or the kid doesn’t get to go. My no just moved the obligation to someone else. Even waiting until Saturday to decide has a cost. Unless we make another plan, my wife and kid have to wait for me to make up my mind. My optionality becomes their uncertainty. So I leave most of my work off my calendar. Sponsor commitments go on it. Kids’ events go on it. Once someone else is counting on me, Bourdain has the better rule. Show up.

I've been building my own version of a flight tracker, adding a 3D toggle makes a much bigger difference than I realized to see what is going on with a flight. Like did this NASA jet get in trouble and now is running laps....

I’ve been building out a interactive globe map for my kids to use, but I’ve wound up just playing with it a ton. Pretty wild just to zoom around the world and pull up livestreams from all over. Makes the world feel big and small at the same time.

I’ve been building a home display that has calendar/todo’s for the family. One of the coolest things I realizing I can just make whatever I want for it. Currently got 4000+ live streams from around the world to let the kids check out. Debugging it from the codex app now
