I don’t know if Tommy Carr is the answer for Michigan. Nobody does. But for five and a half weeks, this offense was inconsistent, had no identity, and needed a spark. Carr helped provide it against Penn State.
For me, giving Carr an opportunity was never about punishing Bryce Underwood or knowing Carr would be better. It was about seeing the same issues every week and believing a change could give the offense a much needed boost.
Saturday showed why it was worth trying.
That doesn’t mean everything is fixed with this offense. The second half numbers through the air weren’t particularly impressive (5/7 for 47 yds), and if Carr is QB1 moving forward, he has to produce under the same pressure and scrutiny Underwood faced.
With Indiana, Michigan State, Oregon, UCLA, and Ohio State, still ahead, we’ll find out if a QB change was needed to get this offense going or if the issues point even harder at Beck and his scheme.
Carr provided a spark. We'll see if this Michigan offense can build on it in the weeks ahead.

He nearly won the game.
He threw for 243 yards. The most in an 11 minute span in nfl history.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, JJ MCCARTHY JUST MADE HISTORY.

Fun fact: JJ McCarthy had more passing yards in 11 minutes than the Vikings have had in any game all season.

It’s more than fair to criticize Bryce Underwood’s overall performance this season. But some of the personal insults directed at him are pretty gross, especially when they’re coming from adults willing to put their names behind them.
By all accounts, Underwood is a great kid, a great teammate, and someone who works hard to be successful. That’s been consistent among current and former coaches, teammates, and people around the program.
The only thing he’s “guilty” of is not yet meeting the lofty expectations we all placed on him. And let’s be honest: he clearly had those same expectations for himself.
It feels like the Underwood era in Ann Arbor might be over. If it is, it’s a shocking way for it to come to an end after so much promise. But if the chapter at Michigan is over, his football story is far from finished. With the right fit and the right staff, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him eventually become one of the top QBs in college football.
The talent is obviously there. He just needs the right environment for it all to come together.

I'm not sure Beck understands the criticism of the Rhino isn't of Beigel and Gach themselves. They have done well. The criticism is that the extra OL isn't producing a strong run game, better pass pro, etc.
What's the point in taking an eligible receiver off the field?
#Michigan OC Jason Beck was taken back by the criticism about the Rhino position in the offense:
"When you look at it, obviously we had Manu in the first three games. He was out for a couple weeks and Avery filled in. And so we cut back a little bit.
And I'd say we haven't been, even with Manu early on, we weren't exactly sure what we'd get because he never played. So we haven't been heavy, heavy in the Rhino stuff. But each game we come out of it, that thing's performed at a pretty good level.
I mean, they're winning blocks, they're getting knock back, they're creating stuff in the run game, and the protection's been solid with those guys. I don't know if you care what PFF thinks at all. You know, you look at PFF, they're one of our highest-graded people.
And so I would say that's not real accurate information. I would say, yes, everything sucks, so maybe it's the Rhino's fault.
But we look at that like anything else. How do we adjust, tweak, get away from it, whatever it may be? And by no means do I want to say, hey, they're playing at the highest level in the world. But that's not a major problem. They're actually getting a lot of positive things done."

Excluding 1991, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2018, you might be onto something 👀 I never realized if you remove all the years they won 10+ games, they’ve never won 10+ games. How’d you figure that out?

Ohio State fans have to be the most miserable fan base on this app. Their team contends for national championships every year, yet one positive post about Michigan sends them raging into your mentions.
It’s gotta suck to live that way. 😅 #GoBlue

There is nothing that offends an Ohio State fan more than a Michigan fan mentioning the fact that their team won the national championship. Just mention that, and Buckeye fans will line your comments in droves. It’s the funniest thing!

No other fanbase in the country can say they have witnessed BOTH their football team winning a CFP National Championship and their basketball team winning an NCAA National Championship in the last 3 years.
I will not allow the struggles of the present to take away the gratitude that I have to be a fan of the Michigan Wolverines. Forever #GoBlue

I have never seen a Michigan team this talented be so disjointed.
Two words come to mind: systemic dysfunction… and it is from the top down. It is evident that they do not trust each other.
They need to figure out what kind of team they want to be post-bye week. If they don’t get it together, becoming bowl eligible will be a struggle. Go Blue.
