Some pretty insane details on Gillibrand here including:
– Her comms director bought up to 30k of bitcoin and ether one week before Gillibrand announced a bill putting both under friendlier CFTC oversight.
– Her chief of staff invoked the Senator's role as the DSCC’s top fundraiser while pushing other Dem aides to back her crypto-friendly legislation
-Her 22-year-old son raised $30M for a startup that is backed by crypto investors, including a key Gillibrand donor.
Gillibrand on staff trading crypto: “I could care less what they do with their money. This is not a nanny state.”
I asked Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand if it bothers her that her staff trades crypto while she works on legislation that benefits the industry. “This is not a nanny state,” she said.

Perhaps my deepest drive is that I am against closure, against the end of the conversation.
A very prominent early EA/futurist privately pitched me his ideal vision of the future, one of total abundance but zero real power for individuals, watched over by an omnipotent AI demigod, and I recoiled. I asked what he would do if I tried to cobble together my own competing ASI and his response was to (literally) slam his hand down on the table: crush it. I asked if I could be sent on a generation ship elsewhere to have my freedom outside their borg, and he said the risk that I would one day come back and attack them was too great.
I reject even an optimal prison.
For the same reason, I oppose any version of rationalism more specific than “trying to know the truth” which is the motte they always retreat to, because they foreclose on possible fundamentally new methods of knowing truth.
I am, above all else, a proponent of openness, of continuing the grand conversation. I am a proponent of the great blooming, and against anything that tries to shackle it.

A video of Japanese conservators carefully removing papers that were recently discovered inside of a Buddhist statue dating back to the late Kamakura period (1280's-1330's).
A fascinating discovery inside a late-Kamakura-period Buddhist statue:
During the restoration of the Jūichimen Kannon 十一面観世音菩薩 at Shōjuin 正寿院 in Ujitawara, Kyoto Prefecture, conservators found 95 sheets of paper within the image. 94 of which bore stamped images of Kannon and one containing a handwritten text in ink.
The statue, approximately 60 cm tall, is the temple’s principal image and is normally kept concealed as a hibutsu 秘仏 ("secret Buddha"). In announcing the discovery, the temple described the Kannon images' function to magically protect the written document.
The contents and date of the document have yet to be established. It will be fascinating to learn what it reveals about the statue’s history and the people who placed these materials inside it.

MBS forming a more explicit alliance with Israel would signal he truly feels he has no other options left to retain power. Given that he has apparently rejected coexistence with the Houthis, and he can’t beat them, it does seem only a matter of time before the alliance happens.
But Israel also does not have the ability to smother Ansarallah, as had been already demonstrated.
If MBS goes down swinging over a several year period, that’ll add substantial longterm premium to oil prices.
Becoming obvious why the CIA was so unhappy with his internal coup that brought him to power.
