I actually had this same thought yesterday if I don’t get a project that pays money soon maybe I should hang myself too, it will be easier than to start thinking how to sell all my stuff so I can afford few more months to live in Poland, and then eventually go back and get sent to kill people in Ukraine. That’s just how things are going to be if I can’t solve this problem. How many people are willing to give money to other people that want to kill themselves because they can’t get money? Are y’all ready to see 1M suicides, I wonder? Or people get desperate and start killing each other. I personally would rather unalive myself than do harm to another human. I am super exhausted. It feels like I am dreaming, and tomorrow I wake up and continue fixing bugs and reading code, like I have been doing. I wonder what will happen after consciousness. My entire life is spent in front of PC screen, so yeah.

Never I thought I will see a soulmate writing articles disguised as comments on X 🥰 And even saying outright truth about writing down your thoughts, which is thinking about subject! We don’t “predict” what we are about to write like LLMs are doing it. I don’t have to look at previous text I wrote to produce next word, and I don’t have to slow down with every added token. I simply visualize problem space in my head, components of it. For instance, I imagine myself as an entity with some state, you as a potato (entity with mashed potato inside), speech bubbles around saying “writing is thinking”, and then my subconscious mind pulls in all sorts of words and ideas to describe what I see. And all that process is dynamic, I can steer it however I want, and that context management inside my mind, that ability to search for next word instead of just predicting what should be there is what I call problem solving ability. > Problem solving is pulling up together states and state transitions in a way that creates a desired outcome So my desired outcome for this was to connect with your writing… with even more writing 🔥✍️ Thank you for understanding!

@mpjme got one, Spotify I never got this job this way because I only realized it in 2026. When everybody is mass applying you have to stand out from the crowd. How’d you do that? You create value that is obvious to people.

youtube.com/watch?v=bW9riRP8… linking the original video where you can see the actual effort mpj have done. Before LLMs, agents. Today we have ability to reverse engineer apps but people still stuck thinking they need to send resumes, but now brute-forcing it at inhuman speed.

I mean, why do you think I have usecoherence.dev/ ☺️ but it's long way to go... I need to buy some time...
at this level of IQ you need to stop trying to work for others, or be disappointed forever

I should blog this. More people need to know the power of focus and attention (is all you need).

I worked at Codility but thoughts are my own, not company’s. This cargo cult around automated screening and leetcode should have been dismantled decades ago. HackerRank, Codility, and others are only part of the problem. The root cause is inability to measure problem solving abilities. Leetcode is pattern detection and a tiny bit of composition. That’s why LLMs can oneshot it today. The only way to tell whether a candidate can perform is to talk to them and then give them a task to see how they handle it. The more ambiguous task is the more seniority you can assume. The End. If you dig through my X profile you can find my comment on how to evaluate SWE. Two files: solution and tests, and tests are broken, 3-5 things they have to fix. Watch candidates struggle to debug it ☺️ Last but not least, I have seen many companies do not actually wanna solve hiring problems, they don’t care, they don’t understand how to hire and it shows. They want solution, not understanding. And as you know, you can outsource work, but can’t outsource understanding. When companies finally realize hiring is connecting to people ambitions and goals and their identity and their needs and so on, leetcode becomes just a tool, and they have been thinking it is the “oracle” that can replace their understanding. Teach yourself, teach your boss on what hiring is and let’s forget that hiring is a painful process. Find your dream job and make sure you are hired there. Spend effort to show you deserve it. Mass applications with AI, AI interviews all that bullshit is only gonna increase suffering for everyone. The only scalable approach is proof of work that you did to apply. Spend 2 weeks on a company you want to get in. Make it an app, a demo, a PoC, connect yourself to the company as if you are already working there. And you can see mass apply is not tool you should use. This is not numbers game, never was. It is understanding game. Make company understand you are the best candidate they can afford. How would you do that? Well, you have all tools today. You can do deep research on company. You can read bio about people working there, you can talk to them, you can find connections, find their blogs, read all that, understand if that’s aligned to you or not. It is a lot of work, and if everyone does this then company don’t have to scan through 1000 resumes. And you don’t have to spend time rewriting your resume every single time and waste months on this bullshit. This is all doable. Be this person. If you wanna fix hiring, start from yourself. Show them how it’s done. You can do it. I believe in you.

I guess they have chosen to optimize for complexity 🫠 If you haven’t ported Doom to Typescript types you ain’t lived ☺️

Maybe I should write a book
That’s the trick. They can’t ☺️ See, you can outsource work all you want. But it won’t get you understanding why that work is even needed. You can generate perfect images. But why? You can create software. But who is gonna use it and why? You can make a logo. But why should they remember you? You can drive in autonomous car. But where are you going? And why? You can outsource anything. Except understanding. Retards with $20 month sub can only serve as a meat proxy to LLM, can be easily replaced with another LLM or even a deterministic script 😌 The moat is not capabilities even. See, I don’t even know how to draw and yet this was my gift to spouse. It is a moment I captured in my head back when we met together, 2015. Do you believe I should have generated this image? Hired people who have better understanding of my relationship to my wife? Used a goddamn $20 sub to outsource my time and effort? Why should I even care? It’s just we were together for 11 years , so what? Can’t some guy from a low cost country draw it for me then, so then I can pass it to her like I cared? Or maybe I should hire a professional and let him get into my brain and understand what exactly I need to display? You can outsource your work. You can’t outsource understanding. Maybe I shoud have recorded my 11 years in video, audio, and poured my thoughts on paper and then fed it all to machine learning algorithm and then asked “hey, how should I draw this, based on your understanding of what I recorded?” But this won’t be today. I am certain of it. 🎤

Here's what I've been doing today - youtube.com/watch?v=LtRWu9DE… - github.com/johnousterhout/ap… - speakerdeck.com/philipschwar… - commandcenter.blogspot.com/2… - youtube.com/watch?v=4xqkI953… Things I learned: - Complexity is killing software slowly but surely, iteratively, "just add a patch here and there, it won't hurt, right?" - Simplicity is achieved by thinking about the design upfront, and/or refactoring often enough (10-20% of the time) - Clean Code by @unclebobmartin actually had 2nd edition released in 2025 that was highly influenced by @JohnOusterhout - I read their discussion about the prime number generator which launched me into this rabbit hole on explainability/cognitive complexity; the algorithm is really complex — no amount of code and comments and careful explanation and even me reading the entire transcript got me anywhere close to understanding what is going on there; and yet I know how to write sieve of eratosthenes in Ruby; I will try to visualize this algorithm using HTML / SVG / step-by-step tutorials and see if it would be better than text — my working theory is that interactive tutorial is much easier to understand, and I believe we can make a system that takes a method (symbols) in + tests, and creates a game you have to pass to understand how individual parts of that game work - LLMs are "tactical tornadoes", and if you don't read code generated by agents your system slowly but surely becomes unmaintainable - LLMs do not care about strategic design and making things simple to understand and hide complexity - Linux I/O is the most interesting piece of code design, since it is so simple to use, and yet it hides so many complexity you don't have to know about - Complexity Leverage - You can't really think about design and clean code if you don't know how to handle edge cases, bugs, errors, and so on — architecture/design DO NOT save your ass, thinking of invariants do - World is a moving target, and we have to design systems that allow some "wiggle room"; the challenge is to pick a simple abstraction over implementation details (e.g. see case on TCP/IP joelonsoftware.com/2002/11/1…) I also started this draft which I plan to finish next week: usecoherence.dev/blog/2026-0…

How to tell somebody doesn’t get the marketing 🥰 Allow me to elaborate: the hate is artificial. It is most productive way to get your posts noticed. Real people either don’t give a shit or they engage with ragebait content. Called dark psychology patterns. I already have solution in my mind, it is called “dance in the public” First, you make GPG key pair. If you lose private keys anyone can post as you. Now, platform that imports public keys and renders QR codes on screen based on those public keys. QR codes generated automatically, with some random seed plus public key, encrypted by another public key. Now two people are assigned to dance in the public. They open phones: - one opens QR code - another points camera on it They have to spin 360 or 720 degrees in a circular motion while holding each other in the view. The phone has to capture QR code at all time What this gives us? 1. Location is public so nobody can hurt you, and you can wear a mask if you wish but it implies that you’re not verifying that face of yours on the digital page you own 2. If that location is public this means we have third party observers and/or public security cameras that we can observe, audit, independently and see that dance indeed happened around certain time and location between two participants. And also phones have accelerometers so all that data can be captured and triangulated and verified if they actually did the dance or not. 3. Liveness check allows us to execute some important events like signing a contract or going to e-meeting for interview using exact outfit/look/face and device This liveness check is independent enough because people doesn’t have to know each other, they don’t know who they are verifying or who verifies them, it just needs enough people using that system so that they can find partner to dance with 🥰 AI, while can make deceptive videos, cannot really try and fake public security cameras (that are supposed to be audited) or strategically employed people that can monitor the “dance rooms/locations”. And so liveness check gives us highest form of authenticity because person is visible and GPG key is decoded using your private key and confirmation is sent in real time together with video, accelerometer data and gps coordinates. Faking all of that — good luck.
It’s time to build a camera with human biometrics. I don’t know how hard that would be, but we put a man on the moon and made machines talk, so… feasible?
