Do you feel there is something special about towns where the population is lower than the altitude in feet?

US National Debt has moved from $19 trillion to $40 trillion over the past 10 years, a 106% increase. It will go much higher in the years to come because there's absolutely no political will to stop the deficit spending before it becomes a crisis.

Graphic showing how the Colorado River's water is used.
More water goes to alfalfa than ALL household + non-ag industrial use combined. Is this the correct regional priority?
Long term answer IMO: make water abundant (energy + the ocean)

I love this map! It shows all the US cities that used to have more than 100,000 residents but now don't anymore. Cool US history and geography trivia. Source: buff.ly/3yM5JOa

This is interesting. France used to be an innovative, fast-growing country. Then it elected socialist Mitterrand as president in 1981 and moved to big state and high taxes. It has never recovered since then
Isn’t it ironic that Germany and the UK want to repeat the same mistake?

I love and hate prepping someone for a deposition.
To make them understand how a deposition works, the first question I ask is, “Do you know what time it is?”
Nearly every single time, the person will either check his or her watch, or look up at a clock. Then, they will say “Yes, it is 10:30.”
At this point I just smile and shake my head. “No.” Then, I explain why their answer is wrong:
I asked if they knew the time. Not what time it was currently.
Me: “So what would your answer be then?”
Witness: “Yes.”
Me: “Wrong.”
They didn’t know the time, because they had to look at a watch or clock.
If you are ever deposed and do not have a bitch like me prepping you, remember this key: Listen to the question and answer only what is asked. And only what you actually know or recall.
No charge for this advice.

Every socialist experiment since New Harmony has ended the same way, and for the same reasons.
Prices communicate what things are worth. Ownership creates responsibility for maintaining them. When both are abolished, production collapses because no one can calculate what to make or repair.

It took me going to college in Iowa to realize tollways aren’t a requirement
The scam that just keeps scamming
Fifty years ago, Illinois politicians made a promise to taxpayers:
The tollway system would eventually become free.
Instead, it’s become a permanent, multi-billion-dollar cash cow. And now, they want even more.
Here is what the @GovPritzker-appointed @ILTollway is pushing for 2026:
>A massive 45-cent hike on passenger tolls, driving the average to $1.24 per toll.
>A 30% rate hike on commercial vehicles, which already sit at an all-time high.
>An extra $1 billion extracted from drivers every single year to fund a $26.5 billion capital plan.
>A permanent inflation escalator starting in 2029 to keep costs rising automatically.
The worst part? The Illinois Tollway is taking in more toll revenue than ever before. They are collecting far more than they need to operate and maintain the roads, with net revenues peaking in 2024.
Since 1973, Illinois taxpayers have poured at least $27 billion into these plazas.
Why are we paying for infrastructure that was supposed to be paid off decades ago?
