This whole thread comes from a place of love for a game that is a massive part of me.
Please remember that. I know it may possibly piss some folks off that I love at BI, but, it has to be said and awareness raised of what I consider a critical issue to the health of a game I've given a lot to over the last ten years, and, has given me just as much.
I just want to see it be all it can be, and this launcher issue is quite literally insane.
If you have any experiences around this, please, share them.
Comments off as I want them all on the main tweet to hopefully get some official attention on what appears to be a largely ignored issue that is killing community servers.
We've covered a lot of topics on the podcast over the years, but this one is arguably the most important we've ever done.

DayZ, for better or worse depending on your view, has never been a game for casuals. Yes, there are plenty of servers these days (on PC at least) with mods that add this feature, but the base game has always been “hardcore” in this and many other aspects.
It sorts the wheat from the chaff just by the fact that it doesnt hold your hand with tutorials, over the top UI’s, etc. You learn by trial and error.
A lot has changed from the original Arma 2 mod and @rocket2guns original vision, but the core of the game, unforgiving mechanics, perma death, etc has not changed.
There are many other games out there that provide these less hardcore mechanics for those who just want to have fun, and yes, as stated, mods that allow this on this game.
But the base game should not change from what it is. DayZ SETS the standard, other games will always follow. Yes, some will and have exceeded player numbers and sales as the overwhelming majority of players are just casuals who dont want such a brutal experience.
But telling @DayZ to change what has always made it unique is like asking it to sell its soul. The only reason @bohemiainteract would do this, would be financial. And I can honestly say, many existing players would turn on it. And I dont believe that a game like DayZ would actually benefit from changing its core, its soul, just to become like so many other games out there that do these mechanics already. Like Rust.
DayZ’s soul is in its hardcore, brutal roots. Anything less would be like a steak house going vegan but still calling itself a steak house.
If you want vegan, you go to a vegan restaurant. If you want steak, you go to a steakhouse and get steak. Going to a steakhouse, to get a steak, and being told ‘No, we only have salad’ is never gonna work.

if this is dream of his why doesn't dayz have team u.i ?
why not have we have hardcore servers and softcore servers where we can have all the fun things like an in game map team u.i map markers. in my opinion this would bring more causal players into the game

As someone who has served, I can say this is one of the best “reskin” jobs Ive seen, exactly the sort of camo the average soldier would apply using a spray can to their personal weapon. How just need some variants for snow and desert. Thankyou @Luke5g2 for the retweet or I would’ve missed this.

Quick heads-up regarding @878SurvivorFM and our old website.
Our old domain, 878survivorfm.com, expired recently and was picked up by someone else.
Unfortunately, it now appears to be sitting inside a domain parking/advertising system and is redirecting visitors through a series of completely unrelated websites.
When I tested it today, the chain went:
878survivorfm.com
→ ww38.878survivorfm.com
→ another third-party site
→ crypto-related content
During the redirect Safari actually threw up a “This Connection Is Not Private” warning and warned that the site could potentially be trying to obtain personal or financial information.
So, until further notice:
DO NOT use 878survivorfm.com.
If you find an old Survivor FM post, podcast description, YouTube video or Google result containing that link, please don’t follow it.
This isn’t our website anymore and we have absolutely nothing to do with whatever is currently being served through that domain.
The annoying part is that we’ve used 878survivorfm.com for years, so there are old links to it scattered all over the internet.
We’re currently:
documenting what the domain is doing
reporting the redirects to the relevant registrar/parking providers
trying to recover the domain
working through getting old links removed or updated where possible
87.8 Survivor FM itself hasn’t gone anywhere.
The podcast, Discord, YouTube and everything else are fine.
We’ve just managed to learn the slightly painful lesson of:
DON’T LET YOUR FUCKING DOMAIN EXPIRE. 😂
If you’ve got an old bookmark for the Survivor FM website, delete it for now.
I’ll update everyone once we’ve sorted out where the new permanent home is — or hopefully wrestled the old domain back from the internet goblins.

My 2 cents a for whats its worth.
I think @Merlin_DayZ sums it up best. 2 weeks was WAY too long for Frostline, and I honestly feel a long weekend, start Friday, end Monday morning would be perfect, but this is just my completely unqualified take on the matter. I’m gonna guess those who are being paid to run marketing and shit at BI have insights into this and what is the best approach, and judging by the fact they have reduced this promo period already, they are taking notes and listening/adjusting the process.
Players can easily avoid spoilers by just not watching streamers who are playing it. It’s a fact of life that some little turds will spoil EVERYTHING these days, be it movies, books, etc, so this point is a bit of a non-issue. Watching a stream and then complaining about spoilers is a bit like standing in the rain and complaining about the rain when you could easily just go inside. (IRL folks, not in the game….. Go touch some grass FFS if thats what you thought I meant.) It’s the standard drill folks, like when GOT was all the rage, if you werent going to get to see an episode immediately, you knew (or should have known) to switch off your socials until you are ready. If you cant disengage from social media for a week, again, go touch some fucking grass!!
All things considered though, I mean, I guess it’s a good thing that the latest “drama” in the DayZ community is actually about something to do with the game, right?
One thing I DON’T like though, is making this a us vs them issue. It’s not that deep folks. It’s a week of promo then everyone who bought it gets access.
That’s the key right there folks.
“Everyone who bought it.”
This is primarily a business decision. About sales, you know, money, money that pays the bills, keeps staff employed, etc. If a week of promo, hopefully good promo (these events are always a gamble, especially with a game like DayZ and its engine) that sees pre-orders increase, thats good for BI, the DayZ dev team and, us as players. More players means more fun, usually……
Anyway, I’m looking forward to this and seeing what the devs cooked up in the pot of spaghetti (code) that is DayZ.
To be honest, I don't understand the issue with the #DayZBadlands early access—or rather, that one-week event. Yes, you might get spoilers if you watch creators' streams. In that case, just don't watch.
During the #DayZ Frostline event, I watched streamers playing on Sakhal almost every day, yet that didn't stop me from playing on Sakhal the moment it was released. Watching is one thing; playing is another. Personally, I think it builds hype. A week might be a bit too long, perhaps, but I find it perfectly normal for creators who spend ten hours a day playing DayZ (almost daily) to get early access to showcase the map.
Sometimes I feel like people don't grasp that Bohemia is a video game studio and—like any studio—they need marketing and publicity; to me, these events are necessary. I’ll be watching streams of Nasdara, and I’ll be playing on Nasdara from day one as well.
I can't wait to watch some streams to see what the map looks like and the kind of gameplay it offers. I also get the feeling that a lot of people only want to focus on the negatives—like bugs or things they wish were different.
New update? "Oh, there are bugs." New map? "I'd prefer a smaller one." "I don't like the desert; it's just like Takistan." "Sakhal? We've already got Namalsk."
Come on, guys—can you appreciate how far this game has come? It’s 13 years old and runs on software that dates back to the Middle Ages. The tools are ancient and sometimes incredibly difficult to work with; the game is still alive and kicking, yet I read so much negativity—I just don't get it.
I started working with DayZ Tools a month ago. I learned how to use Terrain Builder and Buldozer, and took a look at the other tools. They really aren't easy to use; you need a lot of determination to work with this software. I'm also starting to work on my own map, and it's certainly not easy. I'd rather say "thank you" to the devs for continuing to provide content than focus on bugs or a one-week event that won't make a difference in your life.
We’ve received free updates over these 13 years that have made the game so much better than it used to be. Yes, there are bugs; yes, the source code is unstable, and the devs do their best not to break it. But we regularly get free content, new features, and new maps.
Keep in mind that Bohemia is a studio that needs to sell its game and DLC. They have plans, just like any other studio; that’s normal. Especially in 2026, when communication plays such a huge role.
I think this event, which is set to last a week, is a good thing—though, if you ask me, it’s a bit too long. Three or four days would be enough. As for the creators who get to play and stream the map before everyone else, it’s also a great reward for their day-to-day dedication. Plus, it’s great publicity for the map. I don’t see the problem.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; that’s only natural. We are all different and we all think differently, so here is my take—even though I imagine nobody really cares 😂
I am sometimes surprised by how the development team and Bohemia are perceived. This is a studio that makes video games; they aren't just guys putting out updates for a small fan game. I also sometimes read comments claiming the devs aren't working—as if they show up at the studio and play FC26 all day instead of doing their jobs. Sometimes I wonder if the people saying such things actually think before they speak. It’s a studio; they have projects, plans, and priorities to address before moving on to the next stage. They also need to promote their game and figure out how to make it more popular—such as by releasing DayZ on the Nintendo Switch 2.
For the sake of Bohemia, the developers, and the players, I wish Nasdara and DayZ Badlands every success. I am convinced that the future looks bright for DayZ. This one-week event is a minor matter and poses no problem.
This timeline we are living in…… Those poor men and women being stabbed to have to have their faces shown in a video like this……
This is the worst thing I’ve seen from the USA propaganda machine since “tits out” at the Whitehouse.
The timeline of Idiocracy is progressing WAY faster than anyone expected.
TLDR of the 2.5hr interview @COBRA99826637 and I did with the @DayZ devs.

Almost every single new map being developed by modders has some sort of “end game” style bunker/teleport/event that players need to work towards completing to get to that final area.
The only difference with DayZ is that the game doesnt “end” per se when you achieve this, it just continues.
If you think back to OG DayZ, the only end game was with the Arma 2 mod, getting that heli operational pretty much, and then in standalone, getting to NWAF and then Tisy when it was fleshed out.
Now, every player is seemingly running around chasing key cards, modules, hammers and a plethora of other unique items to do “puzzles”.
I dont think this is a bad thing per se, but for Paul to say that an end game isn’t required, when thats not even how I read Deans quoted comment, it seemed he was more saying exactly what the meta for map development has become in DayZ, an objective for players to work towards completing, often needing to team up with others, seems weird honestly.
@AsmondianA is bang on the money (lets be honest, when isn’t he) that these things that Dean is suggesting, and map developers are adding, ADD tension, doing exactly what Paul is saying but somehow disagreeing with. These unique/rare items, once you have them, add tension to your run, as if you lose them, it’s back to the start again. That seems exactly like providing the beach, the play sets and more for players to do with what they please. If you want to run it, you can, if you don’t, maybe you can find a players and trade/gift it (the item). The choice is, as it always should be, yours to decide what you do.
Ive done the Namalsk event once, a LONG time ago, and didnt even end up in space, just out on the snow. Doesn’t really interest me, I enjoy the brutal survival myself more. I dont enjoy THOSE toys, but love the other toys @adamfrancu @helkhiana @InclementDab provided in that beach play set.
Replying to @TheRunningManZ @rocket2guns
I disagree with the idea that a sur. game should only be a toolbox for players to create the rest. They’ve always survive by offering multiple/new organic "endgames". What’s been neglected IMO is character progression, which could sustain that constant tension Rocket talks about.
Because I’m a masochist and enjoy suffering, I have been frequenting Reddit.
I saw a post, the usual sort of “Australia racist, Im [insert token minority] scared for my kids future” sort of thing.
Scrolling through the comments, I can across an absolute gem of a reply.
reddit.com/r/aussie/s/pNczwY…
For those that don’t do reddit, here it is.
“Australia sees high volumes of immigration, and overall significantly lower levels of integration into our society,
It's not an excuse for racism, but it's definitely a nuanced topic,
I was born in Australia to English & Kiwi Immigrants, but my first wife was an Iraqi christian refugee who's family came here during the islamic revolution in Mosul at the end of the last century,
They couldn't escape racism and targeted hatred in Australia, and in their case, most of it, was from other middle easterners that looked down on them as lesser than they were because they were Christian,
let alone the standard "more melanin than my skin, or talks with a funny accent" generic racism,
Our highest immigration comes from India, China, the middle east, South Africa, and the Mediterranean (in that order)
And unfortunately significant portions of all these populations immigrate to a new country, for better opportunity - to escape the geopolitical climate, cost of living, or internal turmoil of their home, and then end up replicating it here by staying within secular communities, and essentially creating micro communities here.
I Work in Data Engineering (a notoriously international field) and I have chinese colleagues who won't date Chinese people who are from X region of china, and Indian Colleagues that still believe in the Caste system despite literally escaping it, and Middle Eastern colleagues who genuinely don't see why we shouldn't cover our faces in public, and are outraged they can't homeschool their daughters - they're also looked down upon by their relatives for living in Australian culture, and to top all this off, the very notion of intermingling with Australians outside of a workplace where it's actually required, or heaven forbid, dating or marrying an Australian is heavily frowned upon and stigmatised as "less than" someone of their own culture.
So we can't pretend this is "why are white australians racist" because that's a very shallow interpretation of racism in general, (not to mention by definition, actually racist) This is not to downplay Australia's own casual racism, because it does exist, but, this is often generalized as "Australian's are racist"
When it's closer to "Australia, in hopes of not being seen as racist, has enabled so many minor cultural sects to thrive as secular communities with no need for societal integration, that it's inherently led to increases in the cultivation of racism within every community in Australia, not just Caucasian first, and second generation Australians"
and we haven't even mentioned our own first nations people and the significant issues australia faces there.
I don't have any solutions here, and a lot of this comes across as whataboutism, but I promise you, you can pick any culture in Australia, and it will either have a superiority complex, a hatred for X people as a default, or pre-existing opinions on the worth of others based on place of birth, practiced religion or some historic event.”

I found out this morning from the Two Beards & a Producer Podcast team that @RedFalcon passed away after a sudden illness.
A lot of people in the @DayZ community will know Red because of his mods. His helicopters, boats, solar panels and all the other stuff he somehow managed to make work in this wonderfully broken game of ours.
But to us at 87.8 Survivor FM, he was much more than the bloke who made helicopters.
Red was one of us.
He spent time as a host on the show, sat around talking shit about DayZ with us, shared his knowledge and was just a genuinely good bloke to have around. That stream I did testing his heli’s was one of my most fun moments in playing this game.
I’ve been looking through his Steam Workshop since hearing the news and I don’t think I’d ever really stopped to appreciate just how much stuff he actually made, or how many people have used it.
The RedFalcon Flight System alone has been subscribed to more than a million times. Then there’s his Watercraft, the Mosquito, Solar Panel Power System, Buildings, Loot Crates and a heap of other work.
That’s a pretty bloody impressive mark to leave on a game and a community.
There’s also something I found while looking through all of this that hit me a bit harder today.
Red once described what he was trying to do with his work as being “for the enrichment of the DayZ Community.”
Mate, you did exactly that. thats one of the things I respected about him, his decision to release the core of his flight mod for others to use was a gigachad move.
But not just with the mods.
You enriched our little corner of the DayZ community as well.
My thoughts are obviously with Ken’s family, his friends, the Falconers and everyone else in the community who knew and loved him.
We’ll do something on Survivor FM to remember Red properly, because he deserves that.
For now though, I just wanted to say goodbye to a mate.
Thanks for everything, Red.
Rest easy mate. You won’t be forgotten.
