The pay-per-crawl conversation this week is the start of something big: machines paying for things at scale. @Cloudflare just built the seller side allowing agents to pay to read content via their newly announced Monetization Gateway.
But there's a question nobody's answering: your agent can pay for anything now. What checks whether it was allowed to?
Micropayments for content and API calls are where agentic commerce starts, and Cloudflare is about to accelerate it. It's the natural first step: the per-call cost is low, so the risk of a rogue or manipulated agent feels contained.
But "low per call" isn't "low." An agent that goes sideways can turn cents-per-request into a five-figure bill overnight. So even here, at the "easy" tier, a spend cap the agent can't get around earns its keep.
Now imagine the same enforcement one tier up: an agent you trust with a real budget. Trading. Procurement. Travel. Recurring spend. Nobody delegates that without a hard limit, and that limit is exactly what's been missing.
That's what @Obsrver_Prtcl shipped today. OP Crossrail: one signed delegation with spend caps, allowlists, budgets all enforced before the payment exists, across Lightning, x402, and @WDK_tether Delegate once. Enforced everywhere. The agent can't spend what it wasn't allowed to whether it is for micropayments of AI infra, APIs, agentic trading, travel booking or enterprise procurement.

This write-up walks through one agent, under one policy, transacting real sats and real USDT across three rails, with the denials happening at the point of payment, not in a log after the fact.

This is your opportunity to hear how @JeffBooth sees the convergence of AI and Bitcoin; it's a taste of the types of talks we'll be having at the beachside of @PuntaMita, this Oct. 25-27.
ONLY 2 DAYS AWAY: INVESTING IN THE AI AGE WITH JEFF BOOTH
AI is changing the rules of investing in real time.
This Friday at 11 AM ET, I’m sitting down with @JeffBooth for a live one-hour conversation on how investors should think about what comes next.
We’ll discuss:
🔸 Which businesses AI could make dramatically more valuable and which could disappear
🔸 How AI changes the way we think about investing and capital allocation
🔸 The convergence of AI and Bitcoin
🔸 Jeff’s latest venture, Orange Juice, and how he’s putting these ideas into practice
Presented by @MitaTechTalks ahead of its 10th edition in Punta Mita, Mexico this October.
Free to attend. Register now 👇

Is this what pacing looks like? Instead of pushing the frontier, the frontier labs will focus their innovation capabilities on driving costs down and efficiency up for mainstream users?

This is the message that needs to be shared globally with anyone who will listen!
I get the fear as some of it is legit and some is political theater or self interested. But the world and innovators do not know how to slow down and we shouldn't either. We need to go forward, aware of the risks, mitigating them as we can and shape the future in the best way we can to try to optimize for human prosperity and flourishing.
AI converging with other exponential technologies can bring about an abundance most have never even imagined. Let's build that world.
For all of those interested in going deeper into the risks and potential of AI and super intelligence, I highly recommend you catch @theaidocfilm which just came out. Yes there are doomers who express valid concerns. But then of course @PeterDiamandis and others come into show the techno-optimist view and how AI can bring about true abundance and help us "solve everything".
Balanced documentary and there is not enough balanced dialog on this topic.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.
You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.
I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.
But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.
Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.
Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.
So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.
If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.
Well @PeterDiamandis called it on @moonshots_pod that AI alignment would dominate the headlines. We need more discussion on the path to alignment without artificially slowing artificial intelligence.
After spending the past year working in Bitcoin @arcadiabtc I’ve decided I must resign because I believe there is a greater than 10% chance Bitcoin will kill all fiat currencies no matter how much central banks et al print money and try yield control.
Thus I’m starting a Bitcoin Fiat Alignment foundation. Feel free to donate for the cause:

Replying to @boydcohen @EvanHub
Yes, a >10% chance of AI causing human extinction within the next decade is a reasonable estimate. Alignment remains unsolved for superintelligence, capabilities are accelerating toward AGI/ASI, and competitive pressures raise the odds of failure modes that could prove catastrophic.
The Smart Cities Wheel 3.0 puts people at the center, six capability dimensions around them, and an agentic layer that compounds.
I introduce the framework and case studies from El Salvador, Buenos Aires, Singapore, Helsinki, and Rotterdam.

Inspired by the interaction between @Teslaconomics and @elonmusk and our own use of Grok Bot and our stack of tools designed to enable agents to spend within human mandated spending limits, we just deployed a spend cap skill for Grok Bot

Bot users who want controlled agent spending: paste it in, save as skill “Spend cap”, then cap $0 and try to send $1. (Real test results below after installing the skill) (P.S. I wanted to add X Money to my bots but I am not based in the US so I couldn't).
