I don't like using twitter to whine and moan but 2023 has been completely ass. If 24 isn't any better I'll lose my fucking shit. Good luck to us all in the new year.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Instead of improving your Anti-Cheat System, You chose to ban Asian players. What you should have been doing is strengthening your anti-cheat system. Instead, your solution was to simply shut Asian players out of the game. My streamer friends and I discovered this game during its playtesting phase. We were thrilled to find a game that didn't strictly limit how many people could play together, allowing more than 10 of us to jump in and have fun. We had an absolute blast. When cheaters started becoming a serious problem on Asian servers, we chose to escape to servers in other regions. Technically, we had to endure over 200 ping just to play the game. Our opponents would always have the advantage of being able to shoot before we could even react. Mentally, we had to endure racism and discrimination against Asian players. The pattern was always the same: We legitimately kill another player → They check our ping and realize we're playing from Asia → They immediately start shouting "Chinese cheater" in public chat. And it doesn't stop there. There are always people who refuse to verify anything and immediately assume we're cheating, throwing insults, profanity, and personal attacks at us. Despite all of this, we still chose to keep playing your game. We endured the terrible ping, the discrimination, and the constant accusations. We even had to defend Asian players against these stereotypes ourselves, rather than simply giving up on the game. Personally, I have plenty of criticisms about this game. Your unreasonable progression system, weapon and vehicle balancing, anti-cheat measures, and even the recently released Season 2. But we understood that this was still a game in development. We were willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, make excuses for the problems, and believe that things would eventually improve. What we never expected was that after investing roughly 300–500 hours into your game, we would be betrayed so harshly by a decision like this. We stuck around through the cheating problems, the high latency, the racism, and the game's many flaws because we genuinely enjoyed what you had created. And this is how you choose to treat us. Maybe we missed something in your promotional video, "Reasons NOT to Buy Our Game." Perhaps one of those reasons should have been: "Asian players are not welcome." @WARDOGS #WARDOGS
Today we have begun the process of controlling regions. 📢 Over the next few hours we will be reducing the maximum ping on a server to be 175 after we have decided that protecting the largest amount of players from an influx of regions that are more prone to cheating. It’s disappointing for us to have to put these divisions in place with social experience being such a core focus of WARDOGS, but we must prioritise the largest group of players over the minority. Region locking is in progress on the backend, but is more than a switch to make a meaningful impact to the desired effect. We’re sorry we let it get to this point that we are forced to make this decision, but we felt that giving certain regions the opportunity to prevail was the right move. Unfortunately, it has not panned out as we’d hoped and we’ll be getting stricter on cross pollination of regions. @BULKHEAD

Alguém postou no reddti e o BAN veio...

At least one of the reasons i'm so strongly outspoken about social issues now is because 10 years ago i used to be part of a typical bro friend group. The way we talked was rarely outright hateful but absolutely laced with casual misogyny. Seeing women at least subconsciously as the lesser gender and things like using gay and the german f-slur as synonyms for unmanly and undesired behavior. If you had asked us if we were sexist or homophobic we'd all have denied it and excused it as "Harmless jokes". Although we totally upheld the system that a few steps further up gets really nasty, dangerous and violent really quickly. I said bullshit i'd now call someone out for. I had not ever thought about trans people, but i have a suspicion that current me would like to punch past me in the face for the dumb shit that i would have blabbered out in an attempt to make up a cool sounding opinion on the spot, that proves my manhood. I slowly left that friend group cus i no longer felt like i belonged in it. The active reflection on why i felt that way only came later. I know what it's like to be a stereotypical straight cis man that could have just continued, because the patriarchy protects and even encourages this grunt behavior. That went along out of peer pressure and never actually did some introspection on whether all this aligns with his deeply held views or how it affects others. Just pathetic, unreflected behavior out of some miserable interpretation of self preservation. That's why i can point this out so clearly now. That's why i care so much. I've been there. I know how much societal pressures can keep you in your lane. And how exposing myself to other viewpoints chipped away at this enough to start questioning my own behavior. How freeing that is. I wanna be one of those viewpoints. A point of friction in the Apex/FPS space. If i can push even a few people onto their journey towards being a kinder and more considerable human then all the pandering and virtue signaling i get accused of was worth it.
