🚨 URGENT: STOP THE EUTHANIZATION OF HACHI
A Texas judge in Fort Bend County ordered a friendly German Shepherd with no history of aggression to be euthanized following a minor scratch incident involving a neighbor who has a documented history of provoking the dog. No bite. No medical treatment sought. No independent evaluation.

They are threatening to euthanize Hachi today, despite knowing the owner is actively in the process of securing an attorney to save his life. @FortBendCounty

💡Ray Dalio outlines five big trends shaping the global economy📉
•High Debt Levels and Monetary Policy: Elevated debt and unconventional monetary policies are creating financial market bubbles and currency risks.
•Internal Conflicts and Inequality: Rising inequality and political polarization are fueling societal unrest and economic instability.
•Geopolitical Tensions and Globalization Shifts: Increasing tensions and a move away from globalization are disrupting trade and investment patterns, leading to greater economic uncertainty.
•The Rise and Fall of Empires: A shift in global power dynamics, particularly between the U.S. and China, influencing global stability and economic growth.
•Changes in the Natural World: Climate change and environmental degradation are accelerating, leading to more extreme weather events and threatening global ecosystems, economies, and vulnerable populations.
•Technological Innovation and Disruption: Rapid advancements in AI and automation are transforming industries but also creating challenges like job displacement.
When one trend intensifies, it often triggers or worsens the others, creating a cycle of risks that can be difficult to break without coordinated, comprehensive action. This interconnectedness underscores the importance of a holistic approach to managing global risks, where addressing one challenge requires considering the broader implications across the entire system.
🚨 The Future is Not Fixed! 🌍 As geopolitical tensions and climate crises collide, the 2024 Global Risks Report urges leaders to unite, rebuild trust, and turn global challenges into opportunities for a resilient world.
💡Dalio’s point about #Bitcoin’s imputed value due to fiat depreciation fits right into this narrative. As we face high debt levels and unconventional monetary policies, the competition of monies, including Bitcoin, is gaining relevance as people seek alternatives in an increasingly uncertain economic landscape.

Is #Bitcoin the future of money ? 🧐Michael Saylor argues it could replace fiat currencies, thanks to:
✅ Fixed supply of 21M coins, protecting against inflation.
✅ Decentralization, reducing reliance on central banks and government control.
✅ “Digital gold” status, hedging against economic instability.
✅ Fast, low-cost cross-border payments for financial inclusion.
Yet, critics say Bitcoin lacks the flexibility for economic management and social stability. 🤔
Could Bitcoin’s decentralized model and fixed supply solve issues like inflation, boom-bust cycles, and inequality? Or will we need a hybrid system with fiat? 🌍💸

🚨💸Think crypto is the bad guy? Look at the numbers:
🔍 $3.2T in crime linked to fiat — money laundering, corruption, tax evasion.
🔍 Crypto crime? Just $20.1B , <1% of fiat crime!
With every crypto transaction recorded on a public ledger, it’s more traceable than fiat. 🕵️♂️

💡#AI startup funding surged to $24 billion from April to June , more than doubles in Q2, Crunchbase data shows, despite investor concerns about revenue and high valuations.💸
Top deals included Elon Musk's xAI raising $6 billion and AI infrastructure provider CoreWeave's raising $1.1 billion in its latest funding round. Also on the list, automated driving company Wayve and data preparation company Scale AI.
#Healthcare and #biotech was the second-largest sector, raising $17 billion. Hardware companies — in large part due to AI infrastructure and semiconductor fundings — raised $11 billion. Financial services companies, typically in the top two sectors in the peak market of 2021, raised $9.8 billion.
Global funding declined 5% to $147 billion in the first half of the year and was flat compared to the second half of 2023, according to Crunchbase.
A tight monetary policy in the U.S. has contributed to a slow revival in initial public offerings, hampering what is among the biggest sources of returns for institutional private market investors, who typically invest in startups and sell shares during IPOs.
Notable M&A
Notable large deals on the software M&A front this past quarter include security company CyberArk’s bid for identity management company Venafifor $1.5 billion. Intelligence platform AlphaSense has plans to acquire competitor Tegus for $930 million. And Run:AI, a company that improves GPU performance, is to be acquired by Nvidia for $700 million.
Despite the pickup in venture in Q2 2024 and increased funding to AI, the overall market outlook has not shifted. Concerns about revenue growth, a challenging environment for startups raising funding, a higher bar at each stage and a slower exit environment continue to impact venture capital allocation.

💡 Big Tech is swallowing up AI!
Databricks continues its acquisition streak with a $1B purchase of Tabular, adding to its $1.3B buy of MosaicML last June. This aligns with Big Tech’s trend of snapping up AI firms—88 acquisitions in the past two decades! Apple leads with 20+, and Microsoft’s $19B Nuance deal is the biggest.
Despite regulatory scrutiny, major players keep moving.
Amazon invested $2.75 billion in Anthropic, Apple acquired Darwin AI, and Microsoft made a significant deal “acqui-hired” Inflection AI, paying a licensing fee to hire most of its staff in March. (Last September Databricks raised more than $500 million in a Series I.The deal values the company at $43 billion , Nvidia was among the investors . Nvidia previously acquired Run:ai and Deci AI among others )
Q1 saw 55 M&A exits for VC-backed AI startups, up from 38 in Q4 2023. With AI valuations high and IPOs rare, M&A remains a key exit route.

💡While the future of Web3 is uncertain in the short term, with a potential investment bounce-back not expected for another year, there are positive signs. Many Web3 startups have financial runway from previous funding rounds, and the recent increases in cryptocurrency prices ( With the approval earlier this year for U.S. exchange-traded funds that hold Bitcoin from nearly a dozen asset managers — including giants such as BlackRock and Fidelity — and the Bitcoin halving event )and favorable economic conditions, such as potential rate cuts, could lead to increased venture funding and support for innovative Web3 startups. Investors might be more willing to take risks on emerging technologies like Web3 when the cost of capital is lower.

Luxury brands are leading Web3 adoption. In a recent study, CoinGecko found that 37% (19 out of 51) of the brands surveyed are from the apparel and luxury goods sector. In total, 21 out of the top 50 fashion brands worldwide have NFTs, or slightly below half (42%). The top traditional fashion brands are using NFTs as part of their marketing strategies, to increase brand loyalty, form partnerships, as well as create virtual collectibles and experiences that go beyond physical products. Louis Vuitton’s VIA Treasure Trunks show how fashion brands are using NFTs to provide new gated experiences for their customers.Redeemable fashion NFTs have also become a popular mechanism for certain brands seeking ‘phygital’ experiences, including Nike, Adidas, Puma and Tiffany & Co.
