📢New paper alert!! With @boothbylab @alexholehouse @fried_lab we take a look at how an entire proteome survives desiccation. TLDR: Desiccation tolerance is encoded in specific residues on the protein surface, and occurs primarily in biosynthetic enzymes. shorturl.at/U5VS1

Disordered proteins are ubiquitous and play myriad important roles in biology. The structural form of these proteins can change when the solution environment changes. But does this translate into function? We answer this question in our new preprint: tinyurl.com/3bwm2twf

We use a combination of functional assays, biophysical characterization, and theoretical modeling to show that while synergy between protective IDPs and their endogenous solutes is widespread, the mechanisms driving this synergy differ between IDP families.

2023 Lab ‘tour’ shirts are here - art work by Iconartistry. Inspiration from one of our papers this year in which undergrad Max Packebush and team showed that human blood clotting factors can be preserved in a dry state using tardigrade proteins.
