Carbon Copy Cloner 7.2 brings incremental updates to bootable backups, so you get backup versioning and history with each update. Plus: a nifty fix for bootable backups not showing in Startup Disk.

Your cloud files aren't missing from your Mac backup — they're hidden in ~/Library.
The catch: "online only" files are 0-byte placeholders, and that's all a normal backup can copy.
How to make a real local backup of iCloud Drive & Dropbox:

A "quick" backup taking an hour? It's not your data -- it's CCC checking every file just to see what changed.
Quick Update asks macOS what actually changed and skips the rest. Often 10X faster.
How it works: bombich.com/blog/2026/06/16/…
A backup that took minutes was suddenly running for hours.
The culprit: a menu bar clock app that grew 1,000,000 empty folders, echoing across Macs, iPhones & the cloud.
How our support team caught it with CCC's stall detection:

Imagine someone walks off with your Mac backup drive. Now they've got your photos, your tax returns, your everything.
Or... they've got a drive full of gibberish, because you flipped one switch in CCC.
Encrypt your backup:

@bombichsoftware I could kiss you guys, your app has saved me so many times now, like at least 3 or 4 times CCC has saved me from SSD corruption which meant my PC wouldn't load the OS but I managed to clone the SSD to a new drive and it works again, I love you.

@bombichsoftware Hi! Thank you so much for CCC. I just typed in one wrong ‘rm’ command after ~15 hours in front of my Mac and wiped my entire package manager and terminal environment. A 30-second restore from my clone and a reboot saved my butt … CCC rules. Thank you!
Just heard the iconic graduation music and it reminded me of the "Good News" MacinTalk voice. Classic Mac whimsy that made the Mac so huggable. Wondering what Apple will unveil today at #WWDC22

We're anticipating some news about macOS 11 Big Sur in Apple's event next Tuesday. We posted CCC 5.1.22 a few weeks ago with support for the new OS. Learn more about the changes coming in Big Sur: bombich.com/blog/2020/11/03/…
We posted CCC 5.1.18 this afternoon, which addresses a small "logistical challenge" that Apple imposed upon bootable backups in macOS 10.15.5. See our blog post for more information: bombich.com/blog/2020/05/27/…
