AI’s biggest advances may not come from better models alone. Rivian’s in-car agents show why: AI becomes useful when surrounding technology provides context, connectivity and guardrails. The model brings intelligence. The ecosystem makes it useful. techcrunch.com/2026/10/15/ai…

Four talks. Two coasts. The Midwest. Seven days. For the next seven days, my primary residential address will be Delta-United Seat 12B. I am looking forward to the conversations. Slightly less enthusiastic about the boarding groups.

The post-COVID academic rebound has not arrived. PISA 2025 shows reading and math at their lowest OECD averages on record. That should concern workforce leaders, not only educators. Today’s 15-year-olds will enter the workforce in just a few years. bit.ly/4j3e7Ui

After leading cited reasons for U.S. job cuts for five straight months, AI fell to fourth in August. It still leads YTD, while hiring plans are up 37%. The signal is more complicated than “AI is eliminating jobs.” This is a workforce planning story. bit.ly/4ibTJjz

If content creation is where your AI strategy ends, you’ve automated the least strategic part of the workflow. tinyurl.com/22ttxd5t

Crucial read in @WIRED today on how AI is shifting surveillance tech: bit.ly/4gb3e0X Flock’s new AI tool lets users search vehicle networks using prompt-based movement patterns Technology that severely outpaces current data governance frameworks.

A person representing themselves in court hid a prompt injection attack in a filing asking an AI system to side with them. Really good stuff here

AI may be changing who does the work, not just how quickly it gets done. OpenAI found 43.5% of occupation-specific ChatGPT use crossed into tasks associated with another occupation. Job descriptions may need to catch up. openai.com/index/how-ai-is-e…

One thought: AI doesn't eliminate cognitive work. It changes it. As AI takes on routine tasks, the remaining work becomes more dependent on reasoning, creativity, and judgment. That's an organizational design challenge as much as a technology one. bit.ly/4c6brkv

Humanᵃⁱ. Now there's a number attached to it. New NBER paper trained AI on mutual fund trades. 71% were fully predictable, a formulaic playbook. The unpredictable 29%? That's where the outperformance lived. youtube.com/watch?v=y6bnEI-W…

Great districts think like farmers. You don't fix a struggling crop by uprooting it. Losing a first year teacher isn't a bad-boss problem. It's a system design problem. My new piece in AASPA Best Practices magazine: assets.noviams.com/novi-file… #K12Talent

South Africa just quietly delivered one of the most important AI governance lessons of the year. The government has withdrawn its draft national AI policy after it was found to contain fake, AI-generated sources and non-existent citations. buff.ly/89NktVo

Just putting this here. In an interesting decision, a Chinese court has ruled that companies cannot lay off employees just to replace them with AI. As AI adoption accelerates globally, this raises big questions: buff.ly/yrXrKW1

Great Clickbait. “This week in 5 numbers” says a lot about where HR is right now. HR is now one of the top functions leaning on interim leaders, a sign that the pace of change in AI, skills, and workforce redesign is outpacing traditional org models. buff.ly/prNIYbA

A 76% engagement score feels good. But it won't tell you if your best people are doing your most critical work, if new skills are actually showing up in outcomes, or if your workforce is running last year's strategy. That's the Glazed Donut Trap. bit.ly/4tIp53O
