HAPPENING NOW: The Board of Investments (BOI) leads the discussion at the 26th Meeting of the AEM-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee Working Group on Automobile Industry (AMEICC WG-AI), bringing together government and industry representatives to discuss developments, policies, and priority issues affecting the automotive sector in ASEAN and Japan. Trade Undersecretary and BOI Managing Head Ceferino S. Rodolfo emphasized that the core strategy for the ASEAN-Japan partnership involves moving away from individual national automotive industries toward a unified ASEAN automotive and ecosystem. "Because ultimately, the measure of industrial policy is not simply how we produce; it is how much capability we live with. And the measure of regional cooperation is not simply how much we bring to one another; it is how much stronger we become because we build together. And that, I believe, is the next chapter of the ASEAN Japan-partnership. And I hope we begin writing more of that chapter together here in Manila," Undersecretary Rodolfo said. BOI Industry Development Services (IDS) Executive Director Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa co-chairs the meeting with Japan Co-Chair Hiroyuki Mitsui, Director for Automotive International Trade Policy, Automobile Division, Manufacturing Industries Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). During the first half of the meeting, the ASEAN Automotive Federation presented an overview of the regional automotive market, including production and sales data for electrified vehicles. ASEAN Member Countries subsequently presented their respective automobile industry annual reports covering government policies, Green Transformation, electrified vehicles, and prevailing automotive market conditions. #MakeItHappeninthePhilippines #PhilippinesBusiness #26thAMEICCWGAI #AutomobileIndustryPH

ICYMI: Trade Undersecretary and Board of Investments (BOI) Vice Chairman and Managing Head Ceferino S. Rodolfo presented the next chapter of ASEAN economic integration during his Special Address at the 10th Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC), held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia on October 14, 2026. Graced by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Raja Muda of Selangor, who delivered a Special Royal Address, the conference brought together government and industry leaders to discuss opportunities for regional economic cooperation under the theme, “Selangor: The Gateway to ASEAN's Youth and Future.” "We do not have to duplicate everything. We have to connect what we already have, and develop new capabilities together,” Undersecretary Rodolfo said in his address, “Two Countries, One Seamless Ecosystem for the Industries of the Future. Undersecretary Rodolfo proposed a new perspective on Philippines–Malaysia industrial cooperation: connecting existing strengths in manufacturing, technology, research, and talent to create opportunities greater than either country could offer independently. Looking beyond the applications of artificial intelligence, Undersecretary Rodolfo emphasized opportunities to participate in the industries and technologies that power the AI economy, including semiconductor design, packaging and testing, advanced computing, and digital infrastructure. Undersecretary Rodolfo offered a vision of an ASEAN industrial ecosystem where investors would no longer need to look at national capabilities in isolation. "And perhaps one day, when an investor asks, ‘Is that capability in Malaysia, or is it in the Philippines?’ we can simply answer: ‘It is in our ecosystem.’” The conference formed part of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2026, which gathered policymakers, business leaders, and industry representatives to explore opportunities for trade, investment, and regional collaboration. #MakeItHappeninthePhilippines #PhilippinesBusiness #10thSelangorASEANBusinessConference
