Per a note to Boston Globe staff today, the lesbian bar story generated 1,000 subscriptions to the paper yesterday. The Globe’s managing editor said it was “by far our best performing story of the year,” and appears to be “on pace to shatter all sorts of Globe records.”

Hospitals that agreed to stop providing gender affirming medical treatments for trans minors said they settled with the Trump administration in order to avoid long legal battles, as well as to avoid revealing personal data the government has sought about their patients. Whatever your views on trans issues, I don't know how you can look at what Nancy Mace is doing and see it as anything other than bullying at this point. What is this accomplishing?
Good morning, Tim McBride is still a man. Everyone have a great day!

Keep in mind they've asked the Supreme Court to greenlight the ban on trans people in the military on the basis it wasn't done with animus

The president said it plainly in the Oval Office, describing his own planned action as a “ban on the free press.” The Constitution protects the freedom of the press from government interference. That protection does not depend on whether the president likes a news organization’s coverage, agrees with its reporting, or approves of the questions its journalists ask. This is about more than the rights of journalists. It is about the right of the American people to receive a full and independent account of the activities, policies and decisions of whoever occupies the nation’s highest office. The WHCA stands in defense of our colleagues at CNN, MSNOW, and Politico who are being singled out for doing their jobs. - Jacqui Heinrich, WHCA President

The only reason I can think of for doing this is … to be mean??? People who misgender trans people often say they refuse to reinforce the “lie” that trans people exist. But even if that’s the case here, he could’ve just used gender-neutral language instead of calling her a man?
6 ABC: Candidate removed from forum after misgendering Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) A candidate forum featuring contenders for Delaware's statewide offices in the general election was disrupted Thursday night after a candidate for the U.S. House repeatedly misgendered his opponent. During the forum at the Siegel Jewish Community Center in Wilmington, Republican U.S. House candidate Joe Arminio repeatedly referred to Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride as a man. McBride is the first openly transgender member of the U.S. House. 6abc.com/post/candidate-remo…

So Maddie decided to fight back. With the Gainesville Police Department and with a lawyer, she tried to find out the men behind the anonymous accounts — and what she learned stunned her. One conservative group's website, for instance, claims without evidence that the proposal to strike Virginia's same-sex marriage ban from the constitution would “enshrine gender ideology into our state constitution, threatening girls’ safety and sports.” familyfoundation.org/protect…

Also: Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative group representing gay Republicans, has not publicly endorsed it. The org recently said it would no longer advocate on behalf of transgender Republicans and would focus exclusively on “issues of sexual orientation,” including marriage.

Something interesting I found in reporting this story with @bymellbarclay: Republican-led efforts against the ballot measure to repeal Virginia's gay marriage ban hinge on disinformation campaigns linking it to completely separate issues, such as abortion and transgender rights.

Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage hasn’t been enforceable since 2014, but has remained part of its constitution since voters adopted it in 2006 — at least, marriage equality advocates hope, until November. 19thnews.org/2026/09/virgini…

In only a few days, Elon Musk’s super PAC has released dozens of ads vilifying trans people & accusing Democratic Senate candidates of backing a “radical trans agenda.” In at least 2 ads, the people portrayed as trans women don’t even appear to be real. 19thnews.org/2026/09/elon-mu…
