I'm a university professor who homeschools her kids Why do I not trust the school system to teach my kids? Because I study learning for a living & schools do not create independent, innovating, stewards of the future Here are the top 5 academic reasons I homeschool

Hey #DigPed #DigLit friends. I have a friend looking for easy to use resources on fact checking for an elderly population not very tech-saavy or with a lot of digital experience before now. I know you all have made some AWESOME things, but the 1y/o is making finding things hard

I appreciate stores reserving opening hours for the "elderly and other vulnerable populations" but as someone with invisible illnesses, I'm very concerned about potential gatekeepers and shamers making it difficult for vulnerable people who "look normal" to access what they need

Don't worry about your kids' learning. Worry about your kids. They need your love, your calm, your courage, your sense of humor, your patience, your gentleness, your hugs. The rest will take care of itself. Truly. It will. 💛💛💛

It is too widely assumed in education and society that a young person's worth is defined by their ability to achieve competitively. Many young people are destroyed each year in the US with environments fostering this deeply absurd narrative. Let's change it.

international women's day was originally conceived by the socialist movement in the US to reflect the struggle of working class women - not to celebrate girlbosses or women climbing modern corporate ladders.

A reminder that if public schools shut down, millions of children will lose their access to some of the only meals they receive each day. Food banks will become more important, and I've learned the best way to help is not to donate your spare canned goods, it's to donate money.

Fascinating study on academic cheating shows that it's predicted by (absence of) need fulfillment, which in turn reflects how kids are taught: goo.gl/dGDKQc. Of course this is inconvenient for adults who'd rather just blame & punish students who cheat...

In other words, skill isn’t a thing. It’s a dynamic relationship that is performed by mover-environment systems. It is contextual, not an isolated, predetermined list of steps. You don’t “teach” skill. You give it opportunities to emerge & develop. You facilitate it.

Reflexivity: There is dissonance I grapple with in my desire to change education to something I wholeheartedly believe is better, and my absolute belief in not dictating what other's know. Which is itself fundamental to the way I want to change what people know...
“This is the certitude, always, of the authoritarian, the dogmatist, who knows what the popular classes know, and knows what they need even without talking to them.” ~Paulo Freire Today's authoritarian claims that the "evidence" supports their certitude. Are we buying it? 🤔

Like the belief there is an authority in knowledge and who that authority may be. The belief that an authority can give you knowledge or if knowledge is something you construct yourself. The belief that inform what qualifies as evidence, how you evaluate & interpret evidence.

And while I do thing there are beliefs that better align with how I see the world, and would result in an improvement in the world if shared by others. I guess my real interest is helping people recognize their personal Epistemology, and seeing the impacts of education on PE
