I was invited to speak on this panel but my schedule for the day got a bit reshuffled with my travels so I could NOT attend. However, I did want to say Thanks to @bloc_ogs for the invitation and I still wanted to share a few items about the topic in my abcense as I think it is an interesting one in regard to Mistakes to Avoid in 2024… Investment Research: Know the project you invest in. This sounds like a very broad statement, and it is because there is so much here with understanding and knowing the investments you get into. Look for Red Flags like seeing a roadmap with unreasonably high goals (Holders by a certain date, MC by a certain date, being listed by Tier one exchanges by a certain date). Try to avoid a project whose social channels like to censor their audience who seek answers to genuine questions. Also, make sure the devs or dev team are engaging with the community, answering questions and are transparent. This isn’t the complete list but other items I would also mention is checking contracts, looking at dev history with what projects they came from and investigating their token distribution. Investment Strategy: Ask yourself if you are a short or a long-term holder? Being a Meme Chasing Degenerate is fun and thrilling but so is scratching off 1000 lottery tickets to find one winner. A Degen is the same concept and if that is how you enjoy your adventures in digital asset trading then you are a short-term investor because Meme tokens aren’t built for long-term holding. If finding a project you like based off of the utilities they are building or built with a good community and a solid dev team then that would check some boxes on being a long-term investor. Why wouldn’t you want to be an early investor to a project with a promising future? Look at the current top 100 projects in the world by MC, you may find 2-3 meme tokens with the rest being utility tokens. Imagine having the patience to buy into one of those during the ICO (Initial Coin Offering) days, being a long-term holder and seeing a substantial market cap that is sustainable? To me, it sounds more fun and thrilling than scratching off 1000 lottery tickets. Investment Tax obligations: Pay your taxes. Yes, Yes, Yes - this is Financial Advice. Be a good citizen to your local and federal government and pay your taxes. The last thing you ever want is to avoid this mandatory tax commitment and have your government body bully while placing you on some sort of watch list for not fulfilling your tax obligations. Personally, I have spoken to some tax attorneys who are friends of mine and they have given me some great advice on this matter. From my perspective, I'd rather pay what I’m obligated to pay instead of having the taxing body ask questions they already know the answer to that could get me penalized both financially and criminally. I have heard horror stories about this subject that keep me up at night. Trust me; it's not worth it. Making smart digital asset investment decisions in 2024 is really not much different than in years past. Just keep in mind that projects are evolving, investors are becoming wiser and scam artists are getting smarter too. The great thing about X Crypto (Formerly Twitter Crypto) is that a large amount of the community wants to succeed while advancing the digital asset space and are not looking to scam. So, feel free to ask questions openly and there is a good chance you will run across intelligent fellow investors who will want to share great knowledge with you to help you understand your risks/reward strategy much more proficiently.
