Demo Review for Blighten by @blightSoftware2: Blighten is an FPS survival horror game with a lot of promise! I really liked the grungy atmosphere it has a very visceral look to it. Even the safe rooms feel uncomfortable! Gameplay: The shooting feels really punchy, and I loved the sound effects on all the firearms. My favorite was the shotgun it’s important for survival horror to get the shotgun right, and this one rocks! Resources in the demo felt about right (never too much or too little), though med packs might have been a bit scarce. The only thing I didn’t like gameplay-wise was the melee combat; it was hard to get a feel for when I was in range to bonk someone. Visuals: As I mentioned earlier, they’re grungy, with some really beautiful 3D model animations compressed down to pixel art. It reminds me of Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo (I know other games have done this, but that’s the first one that comes to mind). I like it it’s a very unique and nostalgic look. Sound design: I really love the sound design in this game. The weapons sound great, and the monsters sound good too. The real standout is the split-in-half monster every time one of those screamed, it made me jump! The only negative I’d mention is that it could use a few more ambient tracks. Honestly, this was a stellar demo. It took me about an hour to finish and I wanted to play more that’s all you can really ask for from a demo. This is one to keep your eyes on, and I know I will!
