The FEC’s electronic filing system has been offline since Monday night after a reported hacking attempt, just one week before the midterms.
This is blocking the mandatory 24-hour and 48-hour spending reports that show how super PACs and dark money groups are spending in the final days of the most expensive midterms on record.
These are the exact disclosures that reveal who’s pouring last-minute cash into the competitive House and Senate races that will decide whether Republicans keep Congress.
The timing is hard to ignore. With record outside spending flooding key races, the public and media suddenly have less visibility into the final wave of money trying to move the election.
