Day 1 of unemployment: Dockerized my Laravel app Environment, Authentication done, RBAC done, Core inventory schema. Now for the next few hours I'll be working with the service layer adding, transactions, safety, clean controllers, reusable logic, and good architecture
Couldn't sleep, so I started working on my next project:
An Inventory and Order Management System.
So far, I've Dockerized the app and created the RBAC database layer.
Next, I'll finish RBAC verification and start building the actual inventory system.
6 months ago I got offered a job working with PHP and the Laravel framework. I had 0 experience in those.
Today I’ve shipped production code, worked on multi-tenant systems, RBAC, inventory workflows, validations and real bugs in live environments.
Yesterday I found out my contract won’t be renewed.
Now I’m basically back at zero.
Here is my plan for the coming months:
- I’ll document my job search
- build and ship projects
- help beginners in the space who don't know where to start
I was talking with a buddy of mine who works in IT, and he mentioned they don’t hire local software engineers. They hire them from Argentina so they don’t have to pay them as much
AI is becoming a standard expectation in tech roles
Learn how to use it well: write clear prompts, build simple agent workflows, and verify outputs instead of trusting them blindly
Strong fundamentals still matter. Systems thinking, architecture, and understanding trade-offs
Data quality is critical. AI is only as good as what you feed it
