Name: Adam Wharton Age: 22 Nationality: England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Club: Crystal Palace F.C. Position: Central Midfielder (No. 8) Secondary Positions: Deep-Lying Playmaker (No. 6), Double Pivot Preferred Foot: Left Height: 1.82 m (6’0”) Player Profile Adam Wharton is one of the most technically gifted young midfielders in Europe. His game is built on tempo control, progressive passing, scanning, and composure under pressure rather than elite athleticism. He operates as a modern deep-lying playmaker who dictates possession, breaks opposition lines with incisive passes, and helps his team progress through midfield. His maturity and ability to accelerate attacks with one or two touches have made him one of the Premier League’s standout young midfielders. ⸻ 💪Strengths 🧠 Football IQ (10/10) Scans before receiving. Knows where pressure is coming from. Plays quickly with minimal touches. Anticipates teammates’ movements. His decision-making allows him to play at a faster tempo than many midfielders his age. ⸻ 🎯 Progressive Passing (9.8/10) Breaking defensive lines. Switching play with long diagonals. Playing vertical passes between midfield and defence. Finding forwards early. He often attempts ambitious forward passes that create attacking opportunities. ⸻ ⚽ Tempo Control (9.6/10) Receives under pressure Shields the ball calmly Draws opponents before releasing teammates Controls possession without unnecessary touches. ⸻ 🔄 Press Resistance (9.3/10) He turns out of pressure Uses his body well Protects possession He quickly finds the free player He rarely panics, making him an excellent outlet during build-up. ⸻ 🛡 Defensive Intelligence (8.8/10) Intelligent positioning Interceptions Recoveries Reading passing lanes Coordinated pressing He wins possession by anticipating play rather than relying solely on physicality. ⸻ 💂Tactical Role Deep-Lying Playmaker (No. 6) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ His best role Receives from defenders Starts attacks Controls possession Switches play ⸻ Double Pivot (3-4-2-1)/(3-4-3) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent because the back three provide defensive security, allowing Wharton to dictate play from deep. Excellent fit. Allows a more defensive partner to cover while Wharton progresses play. ⸻ Technical Attributes Passing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.8) One of the best young progressive passers in England. ⸻ First Touch ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.5) Excellent body orientation Receives on the half-turn Creates space with his first touch. ⸻ Vision ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.7) Consistently identifies passing lanes that many midfielders miss. ⸻ Ball Retention ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.5) Very difficult to dispossess because of his calmness and awareness. ⸻ ❌Weaknesses 🏃 Recovery Pace He is not explosive over long distances. Quick transitions can expose him if teammates don’t provide cover. ⸻ 💪 Physical Duels He can be overpowered by stronger midfielders in shoulder-to-shoulder contests. Adding strength would help him cope against more physical opponents. ⸻ ⚽ Goal Threat Wharton isn’t a prolific scorer. He contributes more by creating attacks than by finishing them himself. Improving his goals and assists would make him an even more complete midfielder. ⸻ ✈️ Aerial Ability Winning aerial duels remains one of the weaker parts of his game. ⸻⸻⸻ My Verdict👍🏼 Adam Wharton is one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfield orchestrators. His greatest strengths are not spectacular dribbles or goals but his ability to control matches through intelligence, progressive passing, and composure. If he continues to develop physically while maintaining his technical excellence, he has the tools to become one of Europe’s elite central midfielders over the next few seasons.
