Mortality events in pinyon-juniper ecosystems have become increasingly common, but what does it mean for the long-term viability of P-J? In a new paper in @GEB_macro we find that as much as 50% of populations in warm-dry locations may be declining (1/4). onlinelibrary.wiley.com/shar…

Are you interested in plant evolutionary ecology and enjoy spending time in the field, greenhouse, and lab? If so, consider applying to Dr. Carley's lab at U Chicago. Currently hiring a lab manager/technician and postdoc! carleylab.uchicago.edu/join/
Apparently Nevada is terra incognita. Love their work, but I've never understood why the @NWSSacramento maps cut off at the state line. The map already includes an area much larger than the Sacramento office forecast area, why not include northern NV?
A strong, cold winter storm is expected to bring extremely heavy mountain snow Thursday-Weekend. Multiple FEET of snow are forecast; heaviest snow above 3000 ft. Expect dangerous travel with excessive delays, whiteout conditions at times, and possible road closures. #cawx

ALT Snow forecast. Map on the left shows snow amounts for mountain locations across interior northern California. Snow amounts generally range from 5 to 10+ feet above 5000 feet, 1-3 feet between 3000-5000 feet. Impacts: extreme. Dangerous travel with excessive delays. Significant reduction in visibility with whiteout conditions at times. Chain controls and possible road closures. Snow levels: 4500’ to 5500’ on Thursday, 2000’ to 4000’ on Friday, 1500’ to 3000’ by Saturday, and 1000’ to 1500’ by Sunday morning. Timing: Thursday, February 29, 2024 – Sunday, March 3, 2024

#USDA_FIA is hiring permanent/seasonal crew leads in many locations. These jobs are ideal for someone who wants to spend most of their time in the field; western jobs involve lots of travel. Apply 8/21-9/05.
This was my 1st USFS job in 2004; do recommend!
