After I read that it's an independent production I RAN to grab my card.
An independent production means that the majority of this money will go DIRECTLY to Shirahama sensei.
Did you know that mangaka only get 10% on domestic sales & 3% on international sales? #WitchHatAtelier

So far he’s flawlessly mastered chewing, clapping and gardening. Soon he will surpass us. It’s only a matter of time.
I fricking adore how brushbug just mimics everyone in everything they’re doing… he’s just happy to help… #whaanimespoilers

Witch Hat Atelier director Ayumu Watanabe says the staff got so attached to the Brushbuddies that they sneak extra scenes into episodes 🤣
“They’d just add them on their own. The Brushbuddy would be acting in the background while Coco and the others are talking.”
Witch Hat Atelier director Ayumu Watanabe on the challenges behind the anime adaptation:
“I thought, ‘This would definitely be incredibly difficult to turn into anime. So when the adaptation offer actually came to me, my reaction was, ‘What a reckless undertaking.’”
The director explained that the manga's dense artwork and intricate worldbuilding made simplifying the visuals almost impossible without losing the identity of the original work.
“One of the series’ greatest strengths is that level of detail,” he said. “As a fan myself, I didn’t want to see that reduced just because it became animation.”
Watanabe further described the anime as a major challenge for the staff, particularly due to the sheer amount of linework and movement required in every scene.
“In anime production, there’s usually a tendency to settle on ‘this is enough detail,’ but for this project, we decided to throw out that way of thinking. That meant drawing far more and demanding both higher quality and quantity from the staff. It was a huge challenge.”

Not Tamil, but if you like these, look up the 20th C Telugu magazine cover artist/illustrator Vaddadi Papaiah. Decades of great stuff that isn't even well known across India.
