Tony Fadell is known as the “Father of the iPod” He had spent years trying to build up a small digital music startup called Fuse. But by 2001 his company was out of money. By stroke of luck, while on vacation in January 2001, he revived a phone call by no other than Jon Rubinstein! Apple wanted his help building a new mp3 player. He accepted a 6 week consulting roll within Apple and got to work. In that time, he built 3 prototypes which lead up to a big presentation directly to Steve Jobs. He pitched the iPod using styrofoam blocks & fishing weights to simulate its physical weight and feel Jobs immediately rejected the first two larger hard drive or bulky options… Fadell then pulled a hidden 3rd prototype from his coat and handed it to Steve. The 3rd version was a perfect balance of shape and size. Jobs picked up the weighted block, turned it over in his hands to feel its weight and form factor, thought about it for a moment and said: “Let's do this" A month later Tony was officially hired by Apple and named Senior Director of the iPod & Special Projects engineering group. The rest was history.
25 years ago today, we introduced the iPod. 1,000 songs in your pocket. A small team. An unforgiving deadline. We had months to bring the hardware, software, and music experience together. Proud of what we built and that it means so much to people still today. A device that has been woven in many ways into our lives. People have filled their iPods with road trips, breakups, workouts, special occasions with family and friends. How cool that the iPod has become part of culture and our stories. 25 years, it’s hard to believe! Celebrating the team that made it happen today 👏 @StevenLevy was there from the start @WIRED wired.com/story/im-still-con…

This week on @hyperfixedpod — Sanderson stopped making his podcast years ago, but a few months ago it started up again. But this time it was being made by stealing sanderson’s voice with AI, making him say the exact opposite of what he believes. hyperfixedpod.com/listen/hyp…

After landing at Sydney Cove it took the British just 38 years to turn their own drinking water into a sewer. How civilised. Pauline Hanson reckons Aboriginal people are the most primitive race on Earth because they never invented the wheel. So let's have a look at some history and see who is really primitive. In 1788, the First Fleet landed at a freshwater creek called the Tank Stream, clean water looked after by the Gadigal for thousands of years. Governors took a range of measures to protect the stream but none of it worked. By 1826, the colony had to abandon its own water supply because it had become an open sewer. Today it runs under the city as a stormwater drain. Tens of thousands of years of care to keep that water clean, and 38 years of "civilisation" to destroy it. At Madjedbebe in Mirarr country, the scientific journal 'Nature' puts people on this continent making ground-edge axes 65,000 years ago. Those axes are the oldest found anywhere on Earth. Somebody standing on this soil invented them. At Budj Bim in Gunditjmara country there are stone channels, dams and weirs built to farm eels, running for at least 6,600 years. Engineers Australia rates it among the greatest engineering works ever built in this country. It is older than the pyramids and it still works. 65,000 years, and the water was still clean, the soil was still there, and the fish still plentiful. First Nations land management was so advanced that when the British colonists arrived, they didn't even know what they were looking at. Now let's look at 238 years of Pauline's "civilisation". 100 native species have been wiped out for good, and Australia holds the worst mammal extinction record on the planet. In Queensland alone, hundreds of thousands of hectares of bush are bulldozed every year to run cattle, which is why Australia is the only wealthy country on the world's list of deforestation hotspots. The rivers are dying, the topsoil is stripped, the reefs are bleached, and the forests are burning. How civilised. Europe got rich through the export of violence and theft, then built a story afterwards to make the violence sound like progress. Pauline is still regurgitating that story because without it, she is just an ignorant and bitter woman who inherited a stolen country, and is still trying to whitewash history. Stand with First Nations people against these colonial lies.

Well... It's 9/11 again...when this day pops up every year, I like to put up these interesting facts that usually trigger everybody here, just for my enjoyment. The first are a set of pictures taken by Jamie McIntyre, who was a CNN reporter at the time, of the Pentagon when it was hit. Conspiracy theorists love to use the Pentagon on 9/11 as a example of it being staged, that no plane wreckage was ever found at the scene. That it was a missile that hit it, and it was impossible for a plane to hit that low. etc. Funny thing is there are quite a few pictures that show plenty of plane wreckage, including documentation of parts with serial numbers, that were scattered all over the front yard of the Pentagon. Jamie McIntyre took a lot of these pictures and was one of the few to stand up to 9/11 deniers for years, making his own personal website and posting them. Of course people still deny it, but most of them refuse to look at the pictures that clearly show these facts so what does that tell you... Next is a great video done by a little science channel outfit in Italy. They systemically go through the NIST data that was presented on the WTC, and created 3D ANSY models of all the different materials, forces, and structures that were struck and hit. Then model moment by moment how the buildings collapse and exactly why. This includes building 7, with a exact rational of why it fell despite it not being directly struck (spoil alert: Concussion). By the way, this type of modeling is what is done in engineering for modeling all sorts of things. This type of modeling is extremely accurate and is used to simulate forces in preparation of building things like Space X Starship, Bridges, Skyscrapers ect. A luxury we have now that was limited back then. youtube.com/watch?v=tnrkvrXT… Facts don't ever go away, no matter how much people want them to. Most of the nonsense you will see on this platform today is made up just to sell you another narrative of conspiracy and suspicion. But objective reality doesn't need to be proven. Its laid bare to us as observers. Of course the problem I think most people have with it is not observing it, but accepting it.🤷‍♂️
