The anger around AI art has little to do with art. It showcases the early impact AI will have on the automation work. If it were sufficiently worse, there would be little concern but it's great & improving rapidly. AI will likely become a major political issue of this decade.

In 1994, Jeff Bezos famously spotted a stat that made him leave his high-paying PE job to start Amazon: 💡 The Internet was growing 2300% per year. What are the generation-defining stats of today? I'll post a few to kick things off...

GPT-3 Embeddings by @OpenAI was announced this week. 📈 I was excited and tested them on 20 datasets 😢 Sadly they are worse than open models that are 1000 x smaller 💰 Running @OpenAI models can be a 1 million times more expensive tinyurl.com/gpt3-emb

Trying to keep objective. But looking at the numbers around boosters, my main concern is that the results are being absurdly undersold. Most people are sick of COVID, sick of being told what to do, and are thinking of boosters are a nice-to-have. They are transformative. (1/4)

<weeping tears of joy> I've been waiting for someone to solve this -- it just makes perfect sense for there to be a neural network that is trained to train neural networks.
Do we still need SGD/Adam to train neural networks? Based on our #NeurIPS2021 paper, we are one step closer to replacing hand-designed optimizers with a single meta-model. Our meta-model can predict parameters for almost any neural network in just one forward pass. (1/n)

We analyzed 1.4 million cases, 542,936 chains of contact, and 46,087 deaths. . We found that tracing of at least five contacts per case reduces fatality by 48% (95% confidence interval: 45e51), and, at thecurrent levels of tracing in Colombia, it prevents 1.8% of deaths.
