New Data Drop: Pehuén Moure on learning to control #BionicVision. We talked about why neural responses may be a better target than stimulation settings, what limits the responses we can evoke, and how this could lead to more adaptive visual prostheses. bionic-vision.org/research-s…

Big news from Phosphoenix: the Amsterdam spin-off has raised €1.3M to advance its visual neuroprosthesis toward a first-in-human study. Their Fountain Probe uses 1,000+ microelectrodes to stimulate the visual pathway directly, bypassing the eyes. lnkd.in/p/e-zaMrC6

New in @NeuroCellPress: Deep learning can help predict and control neural responses to electrical stimulation in human visual cortex. The study points toward visual prostheses that adapt stimulation to the brain’s actual response. doi.org/10.1016/j.neuron.202… #BionicVision #BCI

Big news today. Science's PRIMA visual prosthesis, our retinal implant for macular degeneration, has received its CE mark, which means marketing approval in Europe. This is a huge milestone to begin to have a device like this commercially available to regular patients. 1/

We are thrilled to welcome @nevadasanchez as Executive Vice President of Engineering. Nevada co-founded Butterfly Network where he conceived the world’s first ultrasound system on a chip and built the engineering organization that took it from a prototype to a globally deployed platform. Nevada joins us at a time of significant growth as we begin the European commercial launch of PRIMA, our BCI retinal implant. We are also accelerating development of our Biohybrid neural interface and Vessel perfusion programs, and expanding the Science Foundry, with its comprehensive MEMS fabrication capabilities. science.xyz/news/leadership-…

.@AmberMaimon: “The greatest challenge is that perception is not simply electrical.” “It’s not enough to activate the right neurons or reproduce the correct signal patterns. The information must be organized in a way the brain can interpret+integrate” cacm.acm.org/news/the-new-er…

Come visit us at the VM Retina Meeting 2026 in Munich from Thurs, April 16 – Sat, April 18 – booth #7. Meet our team and see the PRIMA implant, next-gen glasses, and implantation device up close. PRIMA is our fully wireless, photovoltaic retinal implant which in clinical trials restored central vision to patients with geographic atrophy due to age-related macular degeneration. In a landmark clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, ~80% of participants demonstrated clinically meaningful improvement in visual acuity at 12 months, and 84% reported the ability to read letters, numbers, and words.
