An MLB player tosses a ball to a kid wearing his jersey. The kid makes the catch… then hands it to his little sister and gives her a hug. How can you not love baseball

This is awesome 🥹 Rangers manager, Skip Schumaker, went out to the mound not to remove Carter Baumler, a Rule 5 pick, but to inform him that he made the Rangers Opening Day roster during a mound visit

The Book of Eloy – Jimenez works his way back The Rise: Vlad Guerrero Jr and Eloy Jiménez were MLB’s No. 3 and 4 prospects, respectively, on the pre-2018 rankings published by both Baseball America and MLB.com. In 2018, Jimenez signed a six-year, $43-million deal with the White Sox, the largest ever at the time signed by a player prior to making his MLB debut. In his rookie season in 2019 he validated the hype, hitting 31 HR and finishing above Vladdy in rookie of the year voting, and his 2020 Silver Slugger cemented him as a franchise cornerstone, an elite bat who could anchor an offense for a decade. The Fall: At spring training in 2021, Jimenez suffered a torn left pectoral tendon while trying to rob a home run. It proved to be a career‑altering injury, not a routine “miss a few months and return.” For a power hitter, the pec is part of the kinetic chain that drives rotational force, bat speed, upper‑body stability, deceleration after contact. When that chain is disrupted, the body compensates. And compensation is the enemy of durability. Later that same season, injuries to his groin and knee showed the cascading effect had begun, eroding his athleticism and availability. From 2021–2024, every winter was spent rehabbing something, protecting something, avoiding re‑injury, trying to get back to baseline instead of improving. Without a full, uninterrupted offseason Jimenez couldn’t properly restore strength, mobility, or movement patterns, and he lived in that cycle for four straight years. Once the pec changed his mechanics, the soft‑tissue injuries followed, hamstrings, groin, adductor, heel - predictable downstream effects of a body that was no longer moving symmetrically. Every time he tried to ramp up, something else failed. Chicago’s player‑development and sports‑science infrastructure during that era was widely criticized for poor injury‑prevention outcomes, slow return‑to‑play timelines, inconsistent conditioning standards, a roster full of players who couldn’t stay healthy. Jimenez wasn’t an outlier. The fact that the White Sox kept trying to make him an outfielder during this period meant he continued regular sprinting, diving, wall‑crashing, high‑stress movements. He needed to be a DH years earlier. He lost athleticism, then rhythm, then confidence. By 2024 he had slipped from centerpiece to afterthought, and by 2025 he was fighting for relevance in the minors, first with the Rays system at Durham, then with the Jays organization in Buffalo. With his four-year deal having expired, beaten down by years of injuries, Jimenez has said he considered retirement. The Return: Still only 28 years old, Jimenez chose instead to fight on, heading home to the Dominican for winter ball. Reports noted he arrived leaner, lighter, and moving better, having dropped roughly 20 pounds, and was showing the athleticism he displayed in his early White Sox years. He posted a .321 average, flashed some power, carried his Toros del Este team through high‑leverage games, and earned the league's MVP honor. Jimenez then agreed to a minor-league deal with the Jays for 2026, and for the first time since 2020, he entered a season with no active injury, no rehab timeline. Early Signs of Hope: Obviously - it’s still early, but all indicators are very positive. Jimenez currently leads the Blue Jays in hits and doubles and is batting .400. Perhaps more importantly, his average exit velocity is 98.2 MPH, well above his career best of 92.4 set during his Silver Slugger season of 2020. (For more context, Addison Barger is currently sitting at a 90.5 avg EV, Vladdy at 89.) The #BlueJays hope the first real reset of his professional career allows Eloy to be fully healthy again, and to complete the long journey to get all the way back to himself. 🤘
