Practically everything he found was price-gouging from contractors or outsourcing. The mindbending part of DOGE was that it was going to increase public spending by cutting public staff. Building state capacity saves money.

Turns out the most unrealistic thing about Dune was that the septuagenarian emperor realized that the highest priority was that the spice kept flowing and backed down rather than destroy the basis for his civilization.

Meanwhile the US has basically torpedoed all MRNA vaccine development and has drastically cut cancer research.
Getting hope from one story where it’s not even clear the dog benefited versus reality: maybe a whole generation of progress loss on that very front.

We were told NIH funding cuts were about eliminating DEI.
But the data now shows grants are down across nearly every field of medicine: cancer, diabetes, mental health, brain disorders.
With the greatest cuts hitting Alzheimer’s research, down more than 50%.

Replying to @KimDotcom
I am an ex-Palantir executive, and it is factually correct that @PalantirTech intended to take over the US government while heavily funding the effort. Many of my ex-colleagues are now installed inside the USG apparatus. There is a reason the C-suite of $PLTR has me blocked. The enemy is within, and we are currently an occupied nation. 🇺🇸 We basically have a terrorist entity deeply embedding itself into the USG.

A good thing to come out of this case would be if thousands of people read the books and zines that were called dangerous by the feds in the Prairieland case.
Don't you want to read the forbidden texts? Don't you want to know why the state is so scared of these words?
This quote from the zine If We Go We Go on Fire, presented as evidence in court last week, is especially apt after yesterday’s verdict.

ALT Through our ability to help one another articulate our suffering, we help one another to act. And in helping one another to act we help to demonstrate to those around us that something different, something other than what currently is, is possible. When we unabashedly grieve, fully, publicly, without reservation, we invite other to do the same. Every act of resistance sows the seeds of its own replication. When we resist as part of daily life, we sow the reproduction of a daily life of resistance.

There's this odd notion among some on the Left that mentioning the Iran War's blowback risk to the homeland is saber rattling for intensifying the war.
I think it's the opposite - the more the public learns about that risk, the more pressure there will be to end the war.

Is there an org pushing Dems on tax cuts? Hochul is trying to eliminate a tax on tips, Booker proposing no tax on first 72k, Van Hollen trying to eliminate taxes on first 46k, Porter eliminating state income tax on first 100k and now this. What is behind this insane trend?
Good reminder that Israel could not, and cannot, do this on its own.
End the war now.
(Reuters) - Israel informed the U.S. this week that it is running critically low on ballistic missile interceptors as the conflict with Iran continues, Semafor reported on Saturday, citing U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
The U.S. has been aware of Israel's low capacity for months, the report said, adding that it is not running low on interceptors of its own.
