Just talked to the surgeon and everything went smoothly on this end! Jess did great and is in recovery now. She should be awake and settled in her room in a few hours, at which point she will definitely respond individually to the 1,000+ people who shared their ❤️ with us.

Hey, thoughtful and caring people out there: I get that the noise and vitriol and performative yelling we’re surrounded by makes you want to retreat into your shell. But that’s why we need your presence, your voice, your fortitude. Showing up beats showing off. Chin up!

What a treat to see one of my all-time favorite songs get the ⁦@strongsongs⁩ treatment: "Chicago" by Sufjan Stevens. Thank you, ⁦@kirkhamilton⁩, for articulating so well what I’ve been feeling for 15(!) years. strongsongspodcast.com/chica…

Just sayin’, Bad Religion had a song on 1994’s Stranger Than Fiction (an album featuring the single “Infected”) where the chorus was “Fend for yourself, and shun the handshake.”

On the other hand, two years later they had a song called 10 in 2010 about how there would be 10 billion people on the planet in the year 2010, so nobody's perfect.

Sometimes I add things to to-do list and set a due date way in the future, leading to some interesting surprises when they eventually pop up on my “today” view. This morning’s tasks included “buy a harpoon.” 🤔

It’s a rare thing for a Rhode Islander to get to do this on a Super Tuesday!

I’m planning a trip to Miami and Key West (finally going to cross the Dry Tortugas National Park off the list!), anyone have recommendations? Food, beer, favorite spots, cultural sites, off-beat attractions?

Getting a feel for life’s complexities (as opposed to just “knowing” about them) has been, perhaps, the dominant theme of my 30s. It’s unlocked and expanded my capacity for empathy, influenced my career decisions, and both guided and hindered my search for purpose.

Now on the cusp of my 40s, the weight of realization of those complexities has been really getting me down. Maybe it’s the political discourse I see around me, or maybe the frustrating public meetings I attend, or maybe it’s just the wear and tear of life, but I’m feeling it.

Ward 1 Council Bil’s-minor-quibbles update: so far two of the three candidates have sent me unsolicited emails based on neighborhood association email lists. Big no-no in my book.

I was having kind of a beat-down feeling day and then I saw @trinityrep‘s fantastic production of Radio Golf and now I’m still feeling beat-down but also a little defiant.

I would guess that I’ve logged 1 in 5 beers that I’ve ever had in @untappd, but this still seems like quite a milestone.
