The absolute sheer historical ignorance of someone actually lecturing Irish nationalists about their own discrimination is quite staggering. Let’s educate you with FACTS, which are easily found. In 1968, there were approximately 25% of adults eligible to vote for Stormont were denied a vote in local elections. Property qualifications excluded lodgers, subtenants and adults living with their parents, while some businesses enjoyed multiple votes. In Derry, Catholics held 14,429 local votes against 8,781 others, yet unionists controlled 12 of the 20 council seats. That’s gerrymandering, not democracy. The 1969 Cameron Report (google it) explicitly documented discriminatory housing allocation, employment practices and manipulated electoral boundaries designed to preserve unionist control. And here’s the real embarrassment, universal adult suffrage in local elections had existed in the rest of the UK for decades while Stormont actually decided to maintain its restrictive system. So, the fact that a discriminatory law was worded the same for everyone doesn’t magically erase its discriminatory effects. So with that in mind, you aren’t correcting Irish nationalist history. You’re demonstrating precisely why the civil rights movement was absolutely necessary. Imagine being so desperate to defend unionist rule that you actually end up defending the denial of basic democratic rights. Absolutely shameful
