🚨 CONFIRMED: THE KIKI IRIAFEN STORY
The Nigerian Basketball Federation did reach out to Kiki Iriafen and followed up on the possibility of her representing D’Tigress.
Coach Rena Wakama also made a strong push for Kiki, doing her best to convince the young star to choose Nigeria.
At the time, Kiki was genuinely considering representing Nigeria, and the decision was not an easy one for her.
However, there were also strong considerations from within her family, including her father’s preference for her to represent the United States.
Ultimately, Kiki had a difficult decision to make, especially given her connection to Nigeria.

Grateful to the delegates of the NBBF Elective Congress for your trust. Congratulations to Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi on his election as President. Together, we'll serve all six zones: better facilities, stronger leagues, professional national teams. The work begins now. 🏀🇳🇬

Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi (DAM Foundation) has been elected as the NBBF President, he won the election by taking 40 out of the 48 votes while Olumide Oyedeji takes the 8 votes.
Congrats to the founder of DAM Foundation as a new era for Nigerian Basketball begins.

First things first, congratulations to the newly elected NBBF President, Dam Foundation, and Vice President, Ugo Udeeze. 🇳🇬🏀
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Nigerian basketball after eight years of an administration that, in my view, failed to deliver the progress the Nigeria Basketball deserved.

The NBBF Election Debate: Two Candidates Have Stepped Forward.
When I reached out to the five presidential candidates about the proposed debate, the responses were quite revealing.
Olumide Oyedeji told me he is “101 percent ready” for the debate. He said Nigerians can come with any questions they have for him, and he is ready to answer them. That, to me, is the kind of openness leadership should encourage the willingness to explain your ideas, defend your plans and engage directly with the basketball community.
Stanley Gumut also did not need much convincing. Without thinking too much, he said he was available and would love to speak. His willingness to step forward and engage is also commendable.
For me, these are more than just two candidates agreeing to appear on an X Space. Leadership requires the courage to show up, face questions and have difficult conversations. Nigerian basketball needs leaders who are prepared to be accessible, accountable and willing to tell stakeholders what they intend to do differently.
So, credit to Olumide Oyedeji and Stanley Gumut for stepping forward.
But it is important to also state the responses from the other candidates.
Ejike Ugboaja is yet to confirm his availability, although he made it clear that his primary concern is seeing a better Nigerian basketball.
The P.A. of Mark Igoche informed me that Mark Igoche would not be available for the debate.
Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha also told me that he is currently busy with a lot at the moment and would not be able to join.
There is no need to read more into those decisions than what has been communicated. Everyone has their reasons and schedules.
But as things stand, two candidates have clearly said they are ready to take up the mantle — and ready to face the questions.
And Nigerians certainly have questions.
