This was a highway truck 23 years ago. Runs the water trailer now. Brothers kept it nice. 2003 Vd12 465 hp 18spd Back in in our 4.30 rear ratio days. 1.3 million kms, this truck has had nothing but maintenance, good service, good drivers, good build, end up with a good truck. We came a long ways in efficiency.

Been a while. 30-day snapshot. Using 2.79 CDN per litre fuel price. Set up for comparison. Gathered over 1 million km on the last 30 days. So numbers are real. Took a lot of time, LOL. 30-day average All fuel at $2.79/L. The Canadian national price average. Same distance for every group: 16,000 km / 10,000 miles. Averaged for better comparison. Fuel cost is per truck. Had this honey for the money sold but unfortunately the poor fella buying it backed out last minute. Anyone need a super fuel efficient Mack in these trying times? Lightweight spec, only 17,200 lbs. Includes PTO and pump.

When you’re selling product and hiring a carrier to load it, a few things matter. Start with a clean trailer. That protects the integrity of what you’re shipping. Use a reputable company that will make sure the load is fully unloaded at the receiver. When you write contracts, ask whether the driver is allowed to clean out at the unloading facility. We carry insurance to do that work. Example from yesterday: wet weather, wet loading. We got to the plant with about 4 tonnes stuck in the trailer. We told the facility we needed to clean out the producer’s product. They said we couldn’t, and they didn’t care where it was disposed of. We said no — it belongs in the pit. After they repeated that they didn’t care, we left, swept the trailer down, and unloaded it. The plant was upset when we came back. Today we were told we were supposed to haul it back to the producer for unloading, and they would deduct it. Farmers need to get involved and follow up. We all see product dumped at pullouts and approaches. It doesn’t belong in dumpsters either. I use a good blower and brooms when I dump, and that helps. We need producers’ help on this. What are your thoughts?
