Excellent thread about that stove we're making. I've been cooking on one daily for a couple months now and can't wait to get it in y'all's hands!
Doing a quick thread on the backstory here @ImpulseLabs_ We realized that putting battery packs in appliances made it possible to greatly exceed the available power you'd get from the wall -- and could crush other stoves at boiling water, getting pans up to temp, etc. BUT

it's funny how much of life is spent making decisions not out of fear of a particular outcome, but out of fear of feeling a certain kind of way

So @Ariat had an ad on MTV during Drag Race that began with "when you think WORK, you think BOOTS." And now I can't stop wondering if Ariat has a genius in marketing or if that was just REALLY coincidental timing.

I've always been a very fast writer. I send MUCH longer emails and messages than others. It drives people nuts. Many coworkers have complained. I wondered, is this autism or something? Nope. I just joined /r/Buddhism and can now say for sure: it's, uh, Buddhism, apparently.

So, uh, I haven't used Twitter as much as I used to, but just posting a bit recently... ... looks like @elonmusk fired all the people that were keeping the place from being overrun with porn spam bots, huh?

Google tells me empathy is split into "cognitive" and "affective". Cognitive is the Theory of Mind thing I call "simulating the other" and isn't about actually feeling their feelings. Affective is the feeling part and mostly the research shows nobody understands it.
My partner noted I react to him sharing his inner experience by comparing it to one of mine. When he's sharing something heavy, to him my comparison feels minimizing. Thought about it and realized I do it cuz I don't know how else to empathize. Curious if others do this?

I know I'm weirdly much more metacognitive than most people seem to be, so I'm guessing it's just that I'm scrutinizing how my empathy works and, seeing how, I'm doing it on purpose more aggressively, which makes my behavior unusual.

It's admittedly ironic and humbling to see that in trying to empathize *really hard* I... failed to think about how that behavior would be unusual and might come across negatively to others. Eh, live and learn.

(sorry, missed a word in the second tweet - I understood why it felt minimizing and I've stopped trying to draw comparisons when he's sharing *especially heavy* stuff.)

Ok yeah now I'm reading about affective and cognitive empathy and they are the exact two things I'm talking about. Cognitive empathy isn't really feeling, it's just conceptually understanding (theory of mind). Affective is actual feeling. Not finding a lot of detail on affective.
