VIDEO | Roorkee, Uttarakhand: At IIT Roorkee, scientists are studying what happens to soil and foundations when an earthquake strikes, and how structures can be better prepared for those forces.
From soil samples in the laboratory to putting full-scale structures through extreme stress, researchers are testing how the ground and everything standing on it respond to seismic activity.
BK Maheshwari, HOD, Department of Earthquake engineering said, "When an earthquake occurs, the behaviour of the soil starts changing. We study what changes occur in the behaviour of the soil during an earthquake and the kinds of improvements that can be made to the soil. We also study the types of improvements required to make it earthquake-safe and ensure the foundation remains safe."
Pankaj Agrawal, Professor, IIT Roorkee, said, "It is a zero dynamic cyclic test facility, to test the structure under large deformation. Here, we have to make a full-scale type of structure, either a hill building, a building in plains, or a building with any new innovative idea..."

Interesting how faith, ideology and caste / status gets represented in a visual medium without having to explicitly mentioning it.
Nowhere does the 29-year-old Bengaluru-based IT professional mention that he’s a Tamil Brahmin. There’s no reference to whether he’s an Iyer or an Iyengar, no mention of horoscopes, and certainly no hint that his mother has already begun mentally auditioning potential daughters-in-law.
Instead, he leaves behind the sort of clues only the right people are meant to notice: a photograph from Chennai’s Margazhi music season, another with a steel tumbler of filter coffee, and a prompt passionately insisting that Mylapore has the city’s best sambar.

Great example of #wastetowealth
So interesting. Nature produces no waste. Waste is the result of human systems that interrupt nature’s cycles.
Technologies to turn waste into wealth must begin with a deeper understanding of how nature works. #Nature

When it comes to bakwasgiri, Poor Rahul Gandhi is no match for his sister Priyanka Vadra the Wise.
Here she is, asking what a group of world famous tech experts have anything to do with education ...
Madam Priyanka ji, first understand the commitee is an EXAM task force, their assignment is not teaching, but secure and fair testing. And this team is incredibly qualified for that.
The man you called an IT company owner is the architect the world's largest biometric ID system.
And the one you mocked as 'Gaumutra expert' developed India's first indigenous microprocessor.
Look at the geniuses behind you shamelessly laughing for your foolish remarks- what are their qualifications?
What do those qualified only in "collection, corruption, commission" know about education, examination, execution ?
I completely agree.
I hated math.
I loved Physics.
I only got the option of Chemistry. There were no options of interdisciplinary learning in our times. If I wanted to learn anything other than the stream I picked, I had to learn beyond college.
Very well done interview and just the right question - "What is the reason you have been chosen to be on this panel for exam system rehaul"

The biggest challenge in preventing examination paper leaks is not technology but ensuring the integrity of question paper setters and invigilators, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, a member of the Prime Minister's newly constituted High Power Task Force on National Testing Agency (NTA) reforms, told NDTV in an exclusive conversation.
Speaking to NDTV's @TanushkaDutta, Kamakoti said the panel's recommendations would focus on making examinations "leak-proof and transparent", but stressed that every examination system ultimately depends on what he described as the "root of trust"—the people entrusted with preparing question papers.
