I’ve written a tribute that started as a post but got too long. I’ve expanded the writing to add more personal detail and added some photos. It’s going to be posted to my mailing list at 6pm today. Light a little candle and send William all the love for his journey home ♥️♥️
William altered the course of my life. I’ve written a long arsed post and it won’t fit here so I’ll put in a newsletter along with some lost photos found. ♥️ ps will put newsletter to mailing list tomorrow when I figure out how to!
There’s too much to say and too much to feel. For now, my love to William and his family and everyone he worked with and gave his sensitive heart to. We wrote water from a vine leaf together right from the off. I hope he is at peace now, The love will live forever @WilliamOrbit

The way Beth Orton still is a comedown queen of sorts, one that is almost content as time catches up with her on ‘The Ground Above’ (2026). (For some reason or other makes me think of John Ruskin and ‘The Seven Lamps of Architecture’)

On something of an upswing, musically & (mostly) emotionally, @beth_orton mixes the organic & more, love & the fear from it, body-shaping pain & the transcending of it. The new album is her best in some time, & it doesn't do it easily.

This is a beautiful listen.
Definitely a contender for my album of the year, and vastly different from the music she was recording when I saw her at Glastonbury in my twenties
The voice and artistry of the wonderful @beth_orton grows more stunning with time and with the wounds and love of a lived life.
Go listen today, you won’t regret it.
'Cigarette Curls' embodies the collaborative nature of The Ground Above: the depth of listening and generosity of spirit that everyone involved gave.

It was emotional for all of us, a tender retracing, responding to the known and unknown - the record having taken on other lives since the early journey we took together.
I got to play at BBC Maida Vale Studios last week with my incredible band. One of the first times playing songs from The Ground Above live since recording the record and it felt flying.
If you're in the UK, you can listen back here: bethorton.lnk.to/maidavaleXX
The record is finally out in the world and free and to have a sense of what it will be like to tour over the summer and autumn with these beautiful players feels like the ultimate release.
Very happy too that tomorrow at 7:30pm BST on @BBCRadio2, I'll be joining @jowhiley for a Sofa Session, performing with the band a new song, an old one, and something borrowed.
