Hideo Kojima warned us about this back in 2021 🤯 Back in 2021, Kojima warned that a future built around digital ownership could leave people unable to freely access the movies, books, music, and games they believed they owned. His concern was simple: when access depends on companies, platforms, licensing, government rules, or major world events, ownership can suddenly become permission-based. That post is now resurfacing after Sony confirmed that physical disc production for all new PlayStation games will end starting January 2028. New releases after that point will be available through the PlayStation Store and digital retail formats, while games released on disc before January 2028 will not be affected. For many fans, this is why physical media still matters. It is not just nostalgia or collecting. It is about preservation, resale, lending, long-term access, and actually owning the stories and games you paid for. People are saying Kojima predicted the future again, and this time, the debate feels bigger than gaming.
