Wrote my first metaprogram in Odin! It reads a map of collider vertices from a texture and writes them to an array that can be read by my game. The meta-programming part was surprisingly simple thanks to Odin's fmt.tprintf. I already see multiple benefits to this over comptime.

This is the equivalent of going to a painting competition and printing out an image of The Starry Night.
Recently attended an in-person handheld game console hackathon. I wrote a raycaster by hand. Someone wearing a “I ❤️ slop” tshirt saw mine and said “oh I wrote a ray caster too!”. They showed me. It was a ray *tracer* and claude did all the work. The person didn’t know basic graphics terms. They couldn’t answer basic questions about how it worked, could only talk about their prompting harness. Sad how AI is ruining the craft and community for people that actually like to program and have spent their lives getting good at it.

Vladimir Putin is trying to humiliate the Trump administration. He attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure immediately after President Trump said Russia and Ukraine both agreed to an “energy ceasefire”. President Trump shouldn’t let Putin get away with disrespecting him and our country. Russian sanctions should be reimplemented. Putin thinks he can give @POTUS the middle finger. It’s blatantly disrespectful and antagonistic.

You can post a clip with no audio and idiots will still believe the fake caption 😂
Video: Putin mocks the Islamic state formally known as the United Kingdom. Putin says he doesn't fear the UK because, "they can't even stop rubber boats invading their country, and now they are making Somalian refugees members of parliament”.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
x.com/KirscheVerstah… The video has no audio. Putin is discussing the use of Taurus missiles, and has nothing to do with the UK at all.

He posted a video clip with no audio to claim Putin said something he didn’t. Not a shred of regard for the truth. Alex Jones should be banned from the platform.

What Ziggers don’t understand is that Zelensky is literally the moderate option. If Ukraine holds an election and doesn’t reelect him, it will be because it wants someone even more hardline against making concessions to Russia.
BREAKING: Zelensky tells ABC News that he’s ready to hold elections if Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire

Faux.

I can’t stress enough that this would mean the complete extinction of human culture. You need art because it connects you to all who’ve gone before you; it challenges you to embrace perspectives not your own. Media generated to your exact preferences is the death of the soul.

Odin just got a new MASSIVE update! Huge speed ups in compile times for development builds, performance improvements to `map`s, allowing bit_set to be backed by arrays of integers, a complete parapoly rewrite, and so much more!!! You won't believe it! github.com/odin-lang/Odin/re…

My position, which has been the same since the beginning, is: I will never pay for a subscription service to program (nor rely on some Internet service), and I will never turn my brain off and stop caring about the details I care about today. I am not inherently attached to typing every character, and I think the idea of human language processing and accelerating the production of programming language semantics is exciting. I would only ever do this using local models on my own hardware, and I would employ such tools very carefully (likely using them in my own tooling), and likely not in the ways that many people are employing them today. If I can accomplish the same work I would’ve been doing by hand more quickly, that’s pure win. But if I accelerate yet lose attention to detail, or the ability to think through those details, that’s not the same work anymore, and so there is some loss. That loss is potentially very important.

I made an interactive map of every passenger rail line in the world. High-speed rail, commuter rail, metro systems, trams, even Disney monorails, including in countries like Russia, China, and North Korea where Apple Maps lacks coverage. trains.theojaffee.net

Good. Libertarianism is a front for the hybrid warfare of hostile foreign countries like Russia and China Their situational non-interventionism is reserved for the American government and only the American government. Hard to remain relevant while shilling for America's enemies
Libertarians have disappeared from American politics. Their think tanks and magazines are richly endowed but irrelevant, their ideas exhausted. What happened to champions of free markets and free people? ✍️ @ToryAnarchist Article | spectator.com/article/the-st…

Today’s podcast is all about what happened to Canada. When you see headlines like this it is sobering because we know the progressive parts of the U.S. are not far behind.

The premise of this video is that low human capital is averse to slopulism – not exactly the case!

P.P.S I do not recommend LLMs to most people in fact. If you are beginner at programmer, PLEASE DO NOT USE LLMs!!! You need to learn how to program first, and these tool WILL stunt your growth and learning capabilities. They should be treated as an advanced tool only to be used by highly skilled programmers. It's effectively the equivalent of giving a TIG welder to a three year old who hasn't even mastered holding a crayon yet. What I wrote about is not a recommendation of LLMs to everyone, it's just how I personally use them which will most definitely not what everyone should be doing. Similar to how I do not use LSPs, because they don't work for MY PERSONAL workflow.

Living WITHOUT Flock is an invasion of privacy. Right now an Austin detective is watching security footage of you at Whole Foods. You didn't do anything, but someone was assaulted three blocks away, and the store's cameras are what's left after the city turned off its plate readers last year. With a plate reader, that's a one-minute database search (logged, auditable, tied to a case number). The other 50,000 cars from that day are never opened by a human and auto-delete (in 7 days, in Austin’s case). Without a plate reader, detectives have to rely on more invasive methods, like knocking on doors and asking who has a Ring camera. They come back with 20 hours of raw video from ten businesses, and someone has to watch all of it. Getting rid of Flock doesn't buy you privacy. The other cameras are still there and detectives still use them. What changes is how much they have to lean on them. Instead of a logged plate search that answers the question in a minute, investigators spend more hours watching people on other surveillance systems.
