Wrapping up GTC Berlin with @nvidia networking chief Gilad Shainer sdxcentral.com/video-intervi… Watch the full and frank live discussion about the evolution of the AI data center network on @sdxcentral – covering everything from optics and multiplane topologies to each and every networking pillar. Rounding out GTC Berlin with an Nvidia scoop for @sdxcentral: sdxcentral.com/news/nvidia-s… A prototype network switch showed off 8 interconnected DGX Spark devices. The idea could let developers build massive AI clusters from the comfort of their own home (if they have the cash to pay almost $4k for each device, of course). #GTC #GTCBerlin $NVDA

"I'm fairly certain the amount of optics that we need in the future will be several orders of magnitude more than we currently ship today" During a press briefing, I asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about the balance between co-packaged optics demand and architectural shifts like MRC, where engineers employ fewer switches in the network. His response: "The overall switches that we need is a lot. Don't forget, before you have scale-out, you have scale-up, and scale-up is going to become optical. And so, if we were just to add scale-up to the optical domain, the total volume is going to be, well, 15x. And so just remember there's scale-up and scale-out. And these data centers are getting larger and larger, and the [radii] are getting larger, and the number of GPUs is increasing tremendously. "I'm fairly certain the number of switches we need is going to increase, and I'm fairly certain the amount of optics that we need in the future will be several orders of magnitude more than we currently ship today." #GTC #GTCBerlin $NVDA
