Deeply honored that the United States Senate confirmed me tonight to serve as the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower & Reserve Affairs.
I'm excited to soon serve our President, Secretary of War, Secretary of the Navy, and the American people.
America is worth defending!

"Federal employees should be rewarded for what they can do, not for how long they’ve been on the job." Today, we @USOPM eliminated the historically anti-merit principle of gating promotions for top performing employees based upon their time in seat. No longer - merit prevails over tenure! usopm.substack.com/p/talent-…
As a married millennial with kids who got married before dating apps took off, I don’t have a lot to tell Gen Z about finding a mate.
However.
Yesterday I went to a wedding between two young twenty-somethings.
The guy noticed the girl at the Catholic Center and soon after at the gym.
He simply asked for her number and told her he wanted to take her to dinner. Three years later they were married.
Shoot your shot. See what happens.
Reindustrialization happens slowly…then all that once.
You can feel the curve coming.
I can't find my tool thread, so I'll post this solo:
Huge win for America.
Amazon now sells Tekton tools... and they're price-competitive with the Chinese brands.
Tekton is an American company based in Grand Rapids Michigan, and while not all of their tools are made in the US, they strictly avoid China-based manufacturing. All of their "budget" tools are made in Taiwan.
ICON Tools are a brand of Tekton.
I just wish they were at the top of the charts for tools. I'd like to see amazon pull the no-name china slop.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
ICON Tools is Harbor Freight's premium in-house brand, not affiliated with or supplied by Tekton. Tekton is an independent Michigan-based company.

In 2012, as a young Navy Lieutenant, @JoshuaSteinman saw the launch of Google Glass and said “I wonder if we could use those aboard ship for guiding maintenance technicians through their instruction manuals.”
So we piloted a program to test it.
The tech wasn’t ready at the time (nor was the Navy). But I always love seeing the things a bunch of crazy junior officers envisioned a decade and a half ago emerge in broader culture.
The batting average of things they imagined coming true is unreasonably high.
Makes me wonder what the current generation of young military officers see in the future.

Lots of chatter about Gen Z these days, but I’m here to tell you the kids are gonna be alright.
I sat down with some early career Marines for lunch in Okinawa and I left fired up about the emerging generation.
These were patriots from all walks of life and all corners of our nation.
Some left really tough circumstances and found a family they always desired. Others dove into a deep yearning to give back to their nation.
When I asked five of them clustered around me for one thing they would change about the Marine Corps - I kid you not - two of them said “Sir, I wish our standards were higher.”
Mind you, my work with the USMC over the decades believes they already achieve enviable heights!
That was a good reminder that our youngest troops are always watching, noticing when NCOs and officers follow through - or don’t - on known requirements.
Rest easy America.
There is no doubt in my mind that with men and women like these, we are going to win.

Incredibly grateful and humbled by our U.S. Navy and the crew of the USS Greeneville
It wasn’t the walkthrough of the nuclear propulsion or life systems that stood out the most for me, but the men and women who have volunteered a portion of their life to provide this capability for America
Go Navy 🇺🇸

For four days in 1967, 2ndLt James Capers led his Force Recon team against a larger enemy force. Badly wounded, he kept directing fires and refused evacuation until his Marines were safe.
Nearly six decades later, Maj. Capers received the Medal of Honor from President Trump.

Wife: “well, you need to eat your Wheaties.”
Son: “…what are wheat…ees?”

Staff Sgt. Brendan Kuhlmann kept asking why Marines couldn’t repair GATOR components themselves.
He kept asking why. Eventually, his team got the chance.
Nearly $2M saved. 2,000+ days of downtime prevented.
Now he’s earned the CNO Gold Disk Award.
Sometimes innovation starts with refusing to accept: “We don’t do that.”
Three hours into the car ride home from NASA yesterday, my daughter asked “daddy, why are moon rocks clear?”
We were puzzled for a bit, but then realized she thought the plastic container holding the actual moon rock was a moon rock too!
It was a great question - and a good lesson in how the best science is done.
You gotta ask all the questions to orient yourself to reality.
Special thanks to longtime friend @AstroVicGlover for making the experience especially memorable.
Even on a day when the President awarded he and his Artemis crew the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, he was still focused on training the next generation to look to the stars.
A class act - and something my kids will never forget.
20 years ago Jack and I went through flight school together.
17 years ago we flew into combat together - and he had one of the best mustaches on the ship.
14 years ago I visited him and his family in England when he was going through test pilot school with the Brits.
5 years ago I shot him an excited text when he was selected as an astronaut.
And now I got to watch him chat live with the President while he orbited earth on the International Space Station.
Fly Navy.
Meet incredible people.
And see them fly into the cosmos.
