Because 1) someone asked, and 2) I have work that I'm trying to avoid.
Benjamin Pacini's brief guide to twitter civility for Latter-day saints.
Thread.
Official church account claps back in the nicest possible way and I'm 100% here for it.
Media: Notre Dame vs. BYU, woohoo!
@dashboardbets: Should we call it bible vs. BoM?
Church: We love both books, but would you like a casserole?
Replying to @DashboardBets
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe both books can help you draw closer to Jesus Christ and learn more about His gospel.

This is one of the most cowardly, shameful acts in modern American history.
But it's only possible because Congress, for decades, has been giving up their constitutional authority to let the President do whatever he wants.

Comparing countries to their own autism diagnosis trends allows us to see if introducing a vaccine raises the autism rate above it.
It doesn't, because vaccines don't cause autism.

Between the wealth of the Church, BYU Medical school and the BYU Pathways program, I just don't think people understand the capacity the LDS Church is building for growth and global impact.
We crawled for the first two centuries.
Now we start to run.

Inequality Is Not the Problem.
Much of the research on the economics of inequality stumbles on this simple ethical point, focusing on measures of relative inequality such as the Gini coefficient rather than on measures of the absolute welfare of the poor, on inequality rather than poverty, having elided the two.
Speaking of the legal philosopher Ronald Dworkin’s egalitarianism, Frankfurt observed that Dworkin in fact, and ethically, “cares principally about the [absolute] value of people’s lives, but he mistakenly represents himself as caring principally about the relative magnitudes of their economic assets.”
Dworkin and the left commonly miss the ethical point, which is the liberal, Joshua Monk one of lifting up the poor.
By redistribution? By equality in diamond bracelets? By codes for buildings or unions for trades?
No: by the dramatic increase in the size of the pie, which has historically brought the poor to 90 or 95 percent of “enough,” as against the small percent of enough attainable by redistribution without enlarging the pie.
I love this, but my snarky side was like "Nobel committee really said 'micro>macro'" lolol
Fascinating little article. Paywalled, unfortunately.

President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to prosecute his terrorist war on civilian populations and innocent Ukrainians are dying every day.
Now, Instead of implementing the tough sanctions Lindsey Graham fought to his last breath to enact, President Trump has announced the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy, fueling the Putin’s war machine.
As I saw firsthand in Ukraine last month, Putin is losing this war. Ukraine has fought the Russian military to a standstill and reinvented warfare with drones taking the fight into the heart of Russia.
America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression as we did during the first Trump administration.
Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. I have no doubt that if Putin overruns Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him.
America is the Leader of the Free World. For our National Security, for the security of our Allies in Europe including Ukraine, President Trump should rescind this deal immediately and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. The teacher autonomy vibes are real. Love this commentary by @C_Hendrick
What are the most effective methods of improving student achievement? An NYT investigation.
For me, the data point in the bottom left quadrant is absolutely critical to understanding why student achievement goes wrong so often: teachers making up their own curriculum.

The Sociological Genius of Geographic Congregations
McKay Coppins calls it "the sociological genius of Mormonism." Geographically assigned congregations where everyone has a job and no one has a paid minister. The result? You end up building relationships with people you'd never choose to associate with. Former federal judge Thomas B. Griffith says this is where Latter-day Saints learn the skills America desperately needs right now.
