“Haha, and— wait, he wouldn’t?” That’s hard to believe. He’s always had the assumption that Shadow and Rouge were like… 🤞. Like that. He didn’t think Shadow was leaving or blowing her off at all. “Huh. You know what, you’re right…”

"ha! /i/ would!" a chuckle erupted from the thief while gloved hands momentarily held themselves up in mock defeat, before retreating behind her back. "c'mon now, sonic, use your head. shadow would never let /me/ do anything to him that /you/ do!" although rouge couldn't —

“I’ll totally give him a piece of my mind! He should start treating you better, you’re one of his few close friends. I’ll talk to him, alright?” He grins with a wink. Shadow was ridiculous. Rouge was a beaut, and one of their closest friends!

“Hauh?” A /soft spot…/ Shadow? He hadn’t really ever thought about it. “I dunno,” He shrugs. “Maybe? Shadow isn’t a bad guy, he’s got soft spots everywhere. He just won’t admit it. And I guess if you don’t know him like you and I do, to others isn’t obvious.”

"do you think..." the nosy spy added a pause to give her tone authenticity. "do you think shadow may have a soft spot for you? his rival? a soft spot... that he doesn't have for anyone else?"

But he sees the way Shadow looks at children. He’s seen the way his face softens at certain times of day, he’s seen how he looks like when he was worried. “I wouldn’t say it’s entirely exclusive.”

“Hm? Oh, nah. I hang around Shadow aaall the time like that. I mean, he tries to say he doesn’t want me there, but he doesn’t really mean it.” He says, with a casual grin on his face.

let you hang around..." trailing off with false thought. of course, she had a hunch or two. "is this the first time he's allowed you to be so close?" asking as if she didn't know the answer. typical rouge.

He parks himself right beside her, holding out a hand. Just so he could plant a kiss to her knuckles. Seems like he was feeling friendly today. He eventually throws both hands behind his head, stretching. “Oh! That? Yeah, I tagged along on Shadow’s mission,” —

hands moving to rest upon her hips, she kept track of sonic's circling with both eyes and ears until he settled back into plain sight. "i came to ask about a recon mission i heard that you partook in. care to give a girl some intel?"

“He didn’t mind. I mean, I didn’t exactly wait for him to protest I just kinda went with him. He didn’t seem to care.” Shadow never minded, it seemed. He can’t even count the last time Shadow genuinely pushed him away.
