After going through Makerere and being a leader their, I can tell you the university needs to be revamped.
I see people attacking Victoria University but we need to call a spade a spade, Makerere University needs to change.
1. There's no nobility in a student suffering during studying, exams and even graduation. The university is good but if we don't innovate we shall start comparing ourselves to local universities.
Makerere used to compete with Harvard, Oxford. From creating test kits for HIV, Malaria, Sickle cell disease used globally. Ebola vaccine, Anti tick vaccine, Burkitt's Lymphoma discovery ( a serious cancer now recognized globally), Endomyocardial fibrosis, Buruli Ulcer, Kiira EV, (the first electric vehicle in Uganda), Karposi Sarcoma Research, HIVNET 012 that up to now is used to save babies born of mothers with HIV.
Discovery of circumcision as to reducing HIV transmission, something even WHO adopted and government programs changed to foster this. The Makerere Radio Speech Corpus (over 155hrs of Luganda radio speech data used for speech recognition) and much more.
Producing millionaires, pharmaceutical research, Startups and bringing collaborations with global corporations including Microsoft, Google and more.
2. When you compare Makerere of then and one of today, the innovation is declining. Graduation hasn't changed over a century. Compared to what Victoria University is doing today, Makerere would be mikes ahead in how graduation ceremonies are handled. We can do better and accept when someone does something better, VU graduation ceremony is great.
3. Teaching also is becoming hard, there's a big gap between students and lecturers. Makerere used to have a strong student-lecturer bond and mentorship but now a student can graduate and no lecturer can even tell you about who they're, their names or anything.
4. Also the university is build around oppression as a sign of quality. You read everything and when you're before colleagues from other universities, you know so much, well educated and skilled with diverse knowledge in many fields but those same students have better grades than you. Meaning you know much but on paper, their universities aren't mean with marks. Most lecturers at Makerere still pride in giving less marks as a proof that their programmes are hard.
5. When it comes to graduate programmes, a program of 3yrs ends up in 5yrs because a student has to toll with supervisors.
Makerere is still the Greatest University in Uganda, East and Central Africa, South of Liver Limpopo. The greatest export of this country but it's dying. That's why, now other universities are even competing.
It's even absurd that some people are even trying to compare it to VU... Really, it's an insult not that VU isn't a great institution but Makerere is the Harvard of Africa that is dying.
1. The university needs to build it's alumni base and relationship to help mentor students and expose them to real word experience before they even graduate.
2. Lecturers need to stop being opportunists and start building bonds with students to give teach them real world practical knowledge, understand them and guide them better. Currently most of them are just there to make money and also become affiliated to Makerere just to hype their CVs but not doing real teaching.
3. Improve on PR of the university, it's doing a lot but no one knows about it and in this day and era, doing anything you don't publish is equivalent to doing nothing. What you don't speak is equivalent to not done. VU has out done its self on this, they're doing some good PR.
4. Come back to society and resume solving real problems affecting people like infrastructure, healthcare, food security etc.
It's has the highest concentration of great brains in this country.
Lastly:
Work on the PR
Work on the PR
Work on the PR
Work on the PR

Dear @QueenOlimi.
You might have not been perfect just like any other human being but you’ve been a force to be reckoned on as far as Tooro kingdom is concerned. Raising a King figure as a single mother was one of the hardest tasks for you. But you did a great job. You did what you could and somehow the universe had its own plans for our beloved king Oyo.
As he rests, keep in mind he watches over you and those he loves and those who betrayed him. He might not be alive in the physical realm but in the spiritual world he is more than alive.
You’re not alone, many of us love you and we shall always support you in everything because in your silence, many have been exposed. Keep resting in peace our own King Oyo Nyimba kabamba Iguru IV.
I hope one day your son will be welcome and received by the people of Tooro as the true King returns home. ❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Akiiki, I come before you with a heart full of love and gratitude. You are truly a generational mother. Raising a King for all of us was no easy task, but you carried that responsibility with strength and grace, never once making it look like you were tired.
You may think you raised only him, but many of us grew alongside him. Having interacted with you, not once but several times, I personally know how much you believed in young people and how deeply you wanted to see everyone thrive.
Akiiki ogume. There is so much you can take credit for, so much that words may never fully capture. May God strengthen you, comfort you and fight the battles you have carried for so long.

Replying to @AndrewMwenda @SpireJim
@AndrewMwenda I hope you live long enough to finally hold a child of your own—to feel their heartbeat against your chest, to let your entire soul warp around their fragile little existence, and to finally understand the terrifying, beautiful weight of being a parent.
I hope you love them until it breaks you. And then, I hope the universe strips them from your arms without warning, calling them back into the dark and leaving you gasping on the floor in a house that smells like a ghost. When that unbearable, suffocating grief crushes your chest and tears the air from your lungs, we will all gather around your broken, weeping shell. We will look you dead in the eye, throw your own cruel words back into your face, and remind you—with pure, unadulterated venom—of how relentlessly you mocked Queen Best Kemigisa's bleeding heart, which parent fakes grief when their child is lying lifeless?
Only then will you realize that the torment consuming you is the exact same hell you laughed at!

I see a lot of people attacking me and those who share this view of anti-begging....telling us how the coronation fundraising was only meant for Batooro. Our question is; then why did @ObukamaBwaTooro publish the kingdom accounts to the whole world if they did not want others to contribute?
The queen mother was a strong and well-connected woman. She knew exactly who to turn to when the kingdom needed support. King Oyo never once asked the world to donate to any of his events in 31 years of his reign.
We're here to remind you that Kings are born, not elected. If this had been "Baby Oyo", no one would have needed to beg us. We would have given freely from the beginning. That is the kind of love people had for the real king, not this politically chosen one.
If it had been Baby Oyo, @ObukamaBwaTooro accounts would already be full enough to take care of him for the rest of his life.
It's too early to beg...soon you'll be telling us that UEDCL has disconnected you, UNWSC has disconnected you and even DSTv is off.🤣🤣
#TeamBabyOyo
You guys told us "Team Baby Oyo" should stay out of your kingdom matters, but now you’re asking us to contribute to the coronation of the "elected" king?
You spent all this time fighting the Queen Mother as if the kingdom was sitting on plenty of money, and already you’re begging before the coronation has even taken place. The begging started too early.
If you had crowned Baby Oyo, the account would already be full, because that’s what we were all ready to do for a king we actually wanted.
@ObukamaBwaTooro with this new "elected" king of yours, don’t expect much from us.

A very wealthy friend once told me. When you acquire your first huge amount of money, avoid these 8 things:
1. Tell no one, not even your parents.
2. Pay off your debts before anything else.
3. Let it sit on your account untouched for 6 months.
4. Don't upgrade your house right away.
5. Don't quit your job immediately.
6. Skip the flashy purchases.
7. Never go into business with friends or family.
8. This post didn't reach you by accident.

In Toro mythology, the last time a Woman’s pain spoke, a curse was left behind. Nyinamwiru, whose womb was destined to carry a King, had her breasts cut off by King Bukuku. She cursed his lineage. Because they never wanted her son to sit on the throne, they fought her. History is repeating itself. The pain of a grieving mother is being used against her. Her pain can speak and we can see alot unfold.
