Dear friends :As most of you may have heard,I was arrested ten days ago and released this weekend. I thank you all for visiting me while in prison, calling and keeping it under wraps as my family and friends navigated a way out. I still hope to find a safe space to do journalism.
This is reportedly the reception given to @reda_getachew et al. as flights resumed to #Tigray.
#TPLF had it coming.
Once synonymous with Tigray in its entirety, the TPLF is now reduced to an opposition group that the Tigrayan people resent more than ever before.
In #Ethiopia's conflicts for the past #half_century, the actors stay the same; only the alignments keep shifting:

Several credible reports (including AFP and DW) confirm that Eritrean forces are not only inside #Ethiopia but also expanding in northern and central Tigray, digging trenches and more.
This is a dangerous escalation we have warned about for some time. In its attempt to create strategic depth in Ethiopia, the #Eritrean government is making Ethio-Eritrea war a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Federal forces entered Mekelle, the regional capital this afternoon. The TPLF leadership had already left the city in the past days.
That does not necessarily herald the end of the crisis in Tigray. What follows will need prudence and magnanimity.
Three things will matter. avoid triumphalism, and keep strict discipline among federal forces and their allies. Do not linger in cities and towns; concentrate troops on major infrastructure and borders, and use quick local elections as a bridge to a proper vote. And keep a channel open for dialogue and mediation with members of the TPLF.

Reuters gains access to #Eritrea. Tightly controlled internet access is sparse and slow. Few people bother staring at phones. Young people drink unlabeled bottles of beer from the state-owned factory. Almost no cars can be seen on the streets amid severe government fuel rationing, save a few battered taxis.
