It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

This design appears to completely eliminate the much-beloved loop road and public park at Hains Point, and cut down the cherry trees which line the road. The park is a public space used by tens of thousands of Washingtonians and heavily visited by tourists. /photos not my own.

The president has announced the impending closure of DC’s historic municipal golf course accessible to the public at minimal to be replaced by a fancy Trump style course. I have been on the course and park recently to interview golfers joggers and bicyclists who use it regularly. The remaining trees despite last weekend’s tree cutting are historic and beautiful. This matter is still before a federal judge. Not over yet.

Trump doesn’t care about the general public. His only concern is walling off public lands into private enclaves and business opportunities for himself and wealthy cronies.

. @SecRubio says that Ukraine never had access to Starshield and any issues they may have are with Starlink, the commercial product (and the WH has nothing to do with it). This is, according to available reports, NOT true. Bloomberg reported back in 2024 that Ukraine was given access to the military version of Starlink (Starshield) via a Pentagon contract . And this is consistent with what Musk recently said as well (not to mention Ukrainians). Rubio also says "I'm not sure Zelensky knows what he's talking about". It might be the other way around.

“we will pay any price….to assure the success and survival of liberty.” Is this still true? Do we prize liberty or do we prize power and purse? No more clear test than the choice between Ukraine and Russia. Abandon Ukraine and we abandon liberty. Eventually even our own.

The White House task force that President Trump charged with uncovering evidence of election fraud hasn’t produced any. Instead, it's shifted to releasing records that his administration is using to build a case against those who investigated him. wapo.st/4jm4OPD

The plot thickens. My original assessment might have been correct after all. I find this nauseating. The Telegraph is now reporting that Elon Musk personally approached Trump with a proposal to restrict Ukraine's Starshield connectivity. One source claims that Trump agreed, after which the Pentagon implemented the restrictions. This follows Reuters reporting yesterday that the order originated inside the White House. Both Trump and Musk have denied responsibility. The consequences for Ukraine have been significant. Ukrainian forces reported disruptions to drone operations, including interceptor drones used to defend against Russian Shahed attacks. Although some connectivity has been restored, the 160 km/h speed restriction remains in place, seriously affecting Ukraine's ability to intercept faster Russian drones. If The Telegraph's reporting is accurate, then Musk, whose company supplies critical military communications infrastructure to Ukraine and the U.S. Department of Defense, proposed restricting that capability, and the president agreed. All this took place while Trump was pressuring Ukraine to stop attacking Russian oil refineries, even though Ukrainian officials have stated that Starshield is not used for those attacks. This warrants a congressional investigation into who initiated the decision, why it was made, whether the operational consequences were assessed, and what role Musk played in the process. It also reinforces my broader concern about the reliability of American military technology and the degree to which our allies can depend on it. If access to critical military systems can be curtailed without warning for political purposes, the implications extend well beyond Ukraine. This has serious ramifications for the entire defense sector. And if Musk was indeed instrumental in initiating these restrictions, his role as a major American defense contractor deserves particularly close scrutiny. If substantiated, this would demonstrate that he cannot be trusted with such responsibilities. Furthermore, his actions may have contributed to civilian deaths by undermining Ukraine's ability to intercept Russian attacks, and the continuing restrictions place more innocent lives at risk. If these reports are accurate, Trump and Musk knowingly advanced Putin's military interests at Ukraine's expense. That may not meet the legal definition of treason, but for all intents and purposes, it is a betrayal at the most fundamental level. They are both traitors.

"Who's gonna stop him?" In a republic, the answer is Congress, the courts, and the Constitution. A system where the answer is "nobody" is called a dictatorship. That's the world JD Vance is describing.
Vance: The president has a lot of authority because, the reality is, who's gonna stop him?

Maureen Dowd’s column exposes how Natalie Harp used her access to knife Susie Wiles—showing Trump the Politico Playbook story about Wiles’s daughter profiting from lobbying for Republika Srpska (a pro-Russian Bosnian Serb territory). But Wiles didn't panic; she let television do her dirty work. When Zacharia was tossed onto Hannity, assuming she was in friendly territory, Hannity ambushed her over her fake attorney claims and 14-minute disaster debut. Within 24 hours, Trump showed Zacharia the door, advising her to "reconsider" her job. Dowd chronicles a single, breathtaking week of White House corruption and incompetence: •Kimberly Guilfoyle getting fired as ambassador to Greece after shaking down a donor to pay her $100,000 AmEx bill. •Ric Grenell and Alina Habba Mildon fighting over $5.6 million in misallocated Kennedy Center funds. •Pete Hegseth getting shut down over his "nitwit plan" to livestream a military firing squad execution on Twitch. •Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling out Trump's "sordid deal" with Vladimir Putin over Russian diesel while White House directives throttle Ukraine's Starshield connectivity. “Instead of running the country and dealing with the world he has set on fire, Trump is focused on settling petty squabbles and a web of corruption in his incompetent—and dangerous—court.” Trump’s bubble is getting smaller, more ingrown, and more fractious, leaving an exhausted public to watch an empire bicker over its own demise. nytimes.com/2026/10/17/opini…

A historic video – November 22, 1994: The U.S. President thanks Ukraine for giving up its nuclear weapons. In return, the U.S. promises to stand by Ukraine’s side to safeguard its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity well into the future. That future has arrived—yet today, Trump and his circle act as if none of this ever happened. t.me/MirovichMedia/15617

The White House and/or @elonmusk are deliberately making it harder for Ukraine to intercept Russian drones at a time when Putin has been increasing attacks on civilian targets like bus stations. Truly evil behavior.
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone." He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population." He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory." "They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this." He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

He stopped the shooter, but he didn't stop the shooting. That's the difference. Three kids and their teacher were already dead, and an unarmed teacher had tackled him first. YOU spent decades blocking laws that keep guns away from kids. Now you're taking a victory lap? Fuck that.
“The NRA wants you to focus on how this was stopped…” Correct. A heroic armed citizen saved innocent lives. Your failed gun control policies and “Gun-Free Zone” stickers did not.
