A new report on truancy in D.C. says that some Latino students are truant because the increased presence of ICE, other federal agents, and National Guard had "negative impact on their families." One kid said he was "genuinely afraid to step outside" after his dad was deported.

Reminder not having a long commute is one of the biggest life upgrades. You never normalize against this, like you would a very good or very bad event (the commuting paradox, described in the Scandinavian Journal of Economics). Moving closer to work or going remote is worth it

Certain scenes play like reaction gifs in my mind and this one with Richard Riehle has been there since I first saw Office Space and probably always will.

It’s worth noting that Acton is estranged from her mother because she married a pedophile that molested her and then sided with that pedophile in court.

JD - I've got 15 free minutes before my son's hockey practice ends, so let me see how many of Trump's enrichment schemes you didn't see that I can remind you of.
1/ First one is easy: Trump has executed over 30,000 stock trades, many on inside information, netting him millions.
Jaime West tells Piers Morgan that her next door neighbor just graduated high school and enlisted in the Marines and may get shipped off to die in an illegal war so people need to get off her nuts about drinking a few Coor’s Lights before an interview

When I was working for the Brewers, the sausage race was a real race, and it was competitive. There were about 25 of us who rotated in and out of the costumes, so it wasn’t the same people night in and night out. Zero peripheral vision out of those costumes.
Replying to @mattlindner
How do you guys decide who is which sausage? Is the winner decided beforehand?

We went to Milwaukee a couple of years ago for Bob Uecker Bobblehead Night (no regrets) and caught this video of the sausages folding into the service elevator together 😂😂😂

Tearing down the East Wing and ruining the Reflecting Pool are bad, but symbolically so. This makes the experience of living in DC as a normal person – turning a place for cycling, fishing, birding, picnicking, and cheap golf into a playground for the rich – materially worse.

Opinions from inside the tech bubble are so funny. 'Elizabeth Holmes is a sociopath and narcissist who will do anything, even kill people, to raise the valuation of her company. I don't see how this is interesting, everyone is like that.'

The meat industry tries very hard to keep cameras out of factory farms and slaughterhouses -- and a new undercover video shows why. Some day, our descendants will wonder about our collective blind spot to animal cruelty. A gift link to my column: nytimes.com/2026/10/17/opini…

There is something so disgusting and absurd about the President trying to steal a public park from all of us. It is a stain on the National Park Service and their supposed mission.
Trump, who already owns 16 luxury golf clubs, sees nothing but opportunity with East Potomac. A place meant for the average Joe, being taken by a billionaire and frankensteined into something it was never meant to be to appease his own greed and avarice.
Add to this the fact that he’s trying to do it in the most surreptitious and covert way possible, with willing disregard for the court system and the mandate of the National Park Service.
Zacharia’s photo from last night is proof that this decision has (1) already been made and (2) goes all the way to the top.
I will repeat myself if I wasn’t already clear: the president sees our public lands as his personal opportunity. To seize public lands and reshape them in a monument to his supposed glory.
A park for “the recreation and pleasure of the people” for 129 years, all to be ripped away and stolen by a greedy and vain man.

One of my neighbors worked for USAID. After they were abruptly fired, they had to be hired back on as a consultant at substantially higher pay almost immediately, as they were doing a function that was still necessary.
There are many stories like this.
