The Employment Rights Bill passing is great news but we recognise that many creative freelancers will not feel the benefits.
We will continue to campaign for improved rights for all creative workers including freelancers & the self-employed.
The BBC and its staff are the beating heart of the UK’s creative industries.
That must be central to every decision taken as part of the new Charter, and it will guide our response to the consultation.

The Government's Creative Industries Council contains 47 members but no trade union voice.
It is unacceptable that there will be no one speaking on behalf of creative industries workers, while we continue to await the appointment of the Freelance Champion.

The proposed takeover of Warner Brothers by Netflix is a hugely worrying development for anyone who values competition, & a plurality of voices and stories in entertainment & the media 🧵
This move makes it all the more important that we properly fund, value & support public service broadcasting.
The BBC Charter is up for renewal & a key consideration for the Govt must be ensuring the continuing commissioning & production of quintessentially British content.
