The Mirage of Legibility
In 1965, Robert McNamara sold victory in Vietnam with numbers: body counts, sorties, bombs. War, he thought, could be won like a business case.

I’m rereading Gene Wolfe’s Fifth Head of Cerberus (fourth time?) and can confidently say this is my favorite work of science fiction in any form. What an achievement, both the titular novella and other two (that added even more dimension and richness to the overall novel without subtracting anything). He is an artist on the level of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Huge thanks to @ethicistforhire for inviting me to virtually haunt the philosophy department. In a few weeks I'll be talking boredom, ghosts, sadism and the internet as a site of horror...
