Hey young gay bros, please consider NOT coming out to your family until you’re financially independent. I’ve read so many stories about young gay people being kicked out, losing financial support, or ending up in unsafe situations after coming out before they had anywhere else to go. Coming out should be about being able to live honestly, not putting yourself in danger just to prove that you’re ready. If you depend on your family for housing, school, food, or money, it’s okay to wait. Build your support system, have somewhere safe to go, and make sure you’ll be okay if their reaction isn’t what you hoped for. You don’t owe anyone a coming-out timeline. Your safety comes first.
